Sorry, I love games on all platforms, but looking for essentially a Chrono Trigger/Cross style JRPG on the PC is mostly a wasted effort. If you really want that style of RPG, the SNES, PSX, and PS2 are probably your best bet for that style. Give a nod too to the portables (DS), and niche consoles like the Dreamcast or Gamecube for Skies of Arcadia.

You could also try the Xbox 360 for Lost Odyssey, which is arguably the best JRPG of this generation.

But the PC generally excels at "western" style RPGs, which you seem not to want or be too interested in.

Just play all gothic titles and you'll be happy enough. (start with G1 this is my favorite)

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines uses the Source engine and has actually aged very well.
