recommend a wireless router

Heya,

Does anyone know a good, reliable, solid router or router/modem combination? I'm really a newbie at this stuff as I;m still under 56k, but would appreciate some guidance for top products in running a wirelss internet connection.

Cost is subject, would say about £100 if a wireless router/modem combination, but as I said, I'm no expert with this so just whatever you guy's think for home connection usage.

Note: Will prolly be connecting this PC, a laptop and another dekstop to the Internet (and possibly the PS2 for PES5) around the house, of course this PC will be closest to the router/modem.

i would say motorola surfboard modem and linksys router...thats currently what I'm running on cable and right now it works great!

Does it work ok for ADSL, which is what I will most likely be getting.

And is it better to get a wireless router seperate from modem? If so, then why?

I have had a good experience with both linksys and d-link stuff. I use the Linksys WRT54C and it's been good so far with my d-link adapter.

I've had one netgear router die on me before, so I personally would not go for netgear again.

I'm using a NetGear router & it's doing fine. Their notebook cards really reach out & grab a signal.

I'm using a Belkin MIMO. I love it. Best router I have had yet. The Belkin network wireless cards are pricey although the router itself isnt. This baby goes through walls without a problem! Netgear, Lynksys, and Dlink all make some good models as well. Not all models are equal though so compare closely. The Dlinks are easiest to set up IMO. People have their brand preferences so dont be suprised if you get alot of different answers.

if you are going dsl, and your stuff is anything like our stuff on this side of the pond, i would get a cisco 675 (best modem/router combo i have ever owned) or 678 modem/router combo and then a linksys or netgear router and set it up as an access point. i am currently running a Linksys WRT54G v2 (for the old linux based firmware) router and a BEFCMU10 v? for modem along with some belkin G router a friend gave me that is an additinal access point just for testing it out to compare against the linksys. imo, the belkin may be ok for people who don't want to do anything except plug it in and go, but its options seem a little weak where a wrt54g running 3rd party firmware gives you a lot more control/options.
