I've been debating on what to get my wife for Christmas as she has already gotten two Christmas gifts totaling up to $300. However, those have already been "opened and I'd like her to have something to open on Christmas day so I'm thinking either a water filtration system or Karaoke Revolution for the Xbox.

I'm looking for an under the kitchen sink version. The most interesting one I have found so far is this one but am hoping some more knowledgeable people can give me a good idea.

Thanks.

The filter listed above needs new cartridges every 4-6 months at $40 a pop.

Why do you need a water filter? If your water is contaminated then a whole house filter (UV or RO) is the way to go, or far better, fix the problems leading to contamination.

If it is a taste issue then really think this through before you jump in. Filters grow stuff. If you don't change them on schedule the stuff they grow can taste worse and than the incoming water and possibly be a health issue.

Because it is something the wife asked for? LOL We have a 4month old and so she likes to use purified water when making baby formula. We've just been refilling gallon jugs at the grocery store but she wants a water purifier.

After doing some quick research, I think I'm going to go with a whole house filtration unit which means I won't be getting one right now. Already spent too much money for Christmas and I don't feel like dropping another $300 or more right now on this.

Reverse Osmosis filter under the sink does a very good job and is quite cost effective. Culligan is pretty good buy over-priced. Check ebay (search for reverse osmosis) or a local dealer.
