if you use a Maxi Cosi infant seat, you can snap that right on to the stroller frame, which is convenient as well.

Do yourself a favor, and get a stroller/car seat combo option - the type that you can put baby in and transfer him/her from car to home/restaurant by just picking up the seat.

We have the red version of this Chicco stroller, and it has survived two years and will now be used for the next baby.

It was probably the only thing that allowed us to eat out at a restaurant in the first 5 months or so.

So affordable that I think it's a no brainer, thanks! Though I'm still looking for more suggestions.

That's one thing that I'm worried about - snob appeal. I hate that it's a factor but that's life, especially for my wife. She's trendier than I am and is in no way making demands (I'm the expert shopper of the family), but I was going to go with a Graco that was well received by consumer reports but am hesitant because it's just so dull looking... I just worry that it looks so homely that she'll stick out when she's trying to network with other moms.. God, that sounds awful but we don't know anyone else who's ever given birth so a big aim is to join new-mom groups/ social circles and I don't want her to feel at a disadvantage pushing a $80 stroller. It's a horrible factor here, but I want to move our family from working class Brooklyn to Manhattan proper and Manhattan moms are a judgmental sort.

We bought a Baby Jogger City Mini. Its not a jogging stroller, though I guess you could use it for that. It collapses and folds with one hand(so you can be holding your kid in the other), and they sell a bracket for it so you can fit an infant carrier into it. We love ours.

That's on my short list -I love the way it looks and it's actually pretty reasonably priced too (without looking Walmarty).

I noticed it's very lightweight, is it more of a standard stroller or a supped up umbrella stroller?

If you're going to be travelling at all get the smallest, lightest collapsable one you can find. Nothing more annoying than those giant jogging strollers because you can't take them in stores, you can't take them on airplanes, you can't take them on buses or the subway. The ONLY thing they are good for is jogging.

Don't be one of those parents who drags the entire fucking nursery with you everywhere you go. Pack only what you'll need, travel light. You'll appreciate it and so will everyone around you.

While my daughter was under about 6 months old we just used the Graco combination car seat/stroller system where the car seat snapped into the stroller. It worked well because if my daughter fell asleep in the stroller I didn't have to wake her up to move her into the car. Our friends' son didn't like his car seat so she would use a different stroller for him which he was much happier about. My daughter is now too big for the car seat so the stroller frame is completely useless.

We have a BOB now which works well although it's a little tough to maneuver around a store (kids clothing stores have the narrowest aisles for some reason). This thing is incredibly easy to push and seems to be very comfortable for my daughter (incidentally, this is the same stroller our friends' son used which he was happy in). The BOB is pretty large, even folded up, and quite heavy although you aren't going to need to worry about damaging it. Storage could be a problem for any jogging stroller.

Finally, we just recently purchased an umbrella stroller which I can't use. The handles are much too short for me (6'2") so I have to push it with my finger tips and I still end up kicking it on occasion. We bought it because it folds up really small which is good for trips.

Wheel size is going to be a double edged sword. I've never understood the point or popularity of Maclaren strollers because the wheels are absolutely tiny. I tried to deal with a curb with the Graco frame one time and I would have dumped my daughter out if she wasn't firmly strapped into the car seat because the front wheels got caught and I nearly flipped the stroller over. The problem with the bigger wheels is they're going to make the stroller more difficult to store and transport but they're great on uneven surfaces.
