Recommend a rack mounted air conditioning for server closet

I could get my closet longer but there is no way to get it wider. I thought 4 foot long was "plenty" over sized. There is about a foot "pocket" on one side due to the top of the rack hitting the ceiling before the base hits the wall. The outside edge of the closet is a fixed location due to room door location. I don't want to take the time or pay someone to move it over 😉

If yours looks like the example photo, it seems like you'd have access to the longways wall. If that's the case, could you install a small "access door" if you really want to get to the back easily? It might look a little weird to some, but I don't think it'd take much explaining for them to see why you have it. 😛

there are so many things wrong with portable AC's.
You can do about 15-20 min or googlefu and learn, that they are terribly inefficient, loud, and all mostly garbage.

They are only good for spot cooling....

If you are going to get one, you need one which has a intake and exhaust duct.
They go by dual duct.

Because the single ducts, will use the air inside the room to cool the condensor and exhaust out.
The air being exhaust has to be replaced by outside hot air otherwise you'd get a vacuum inside the room you are cooling.
The outside air is obviously warm air, and hence, you will not get much net cooling effect done.

Make sure u do your research.

Good portable units are expensive also.
Honestly id rather cut out a hole in the wall and install a Window or Though Wall AC unit before i go portable.
Window units can be quieter and far better then a portable.

As i said portables are only good for spot cooling...

I just wanted to pull this out. I think in my case with a small network closet(~40 cubic feet, 2'x4'x5') would be the ideal example of spot cooling.

I will admit, I am probably being a bit paranoid on the cooling aspect.

I've seen an ML350G6 getting run full time in a non-air conditioned closet at a landfill. Had to be 90f in that closet. Fans were running full bore, but the server was otherwise just happily chugging away. It's not what you'd call ideal, but most servers are built to be pretty flexible in their environment requirements.
