Seriously, people have different opinions on whether knock offs are a great deal, or insulting to watches.

However, most of the knockoffs I've seen from HK for $40 - $60 are actually better quality that Fossils/Seikos/etc. I've seen for $100+, plus are a lot sharper looking (whether they say 'Rolex' on them or not).

I've picked up two Seikos from a guy on ebay (singapore) and both look legit to me. Most recent is this one. It's very nice!

First one I got for $38 shipped, best price I can find is $60+shipping. Second, the one in the picture, I paid $65 shipped, best price I can find is $93 + shipping.

I would reccomend a Fossil. I have had one for about 7 years now and I noticed I had some pitting on the underside of the watch. So I took the watch to get the battery changed and the girl at the watch company asked if I wanted to do a pressure test on it to ensure it's waterproof after changing the battery. I said sure and she did them, my watch failed every test because of that pitting on the underside near the battery plate. I then talked to customer service at Fossil and they said to send the watch in. So I did and they replaced pretty much the whole watch for me. I think there watches are of great quality as well as their warranty replacement policies. I would definitely reccomend a Fossil watch.

Me too. I've owned 2 or 3 of them and they are definitely great watches for the money. They look really nice (the Blue and Titanium series anyway) and keep good time. For something a little more classy check out the Arkitekt series.

If you can find one on ebay or something, the Seiko kinetic watches are real nice. I have one from about 5 years ago...its capacitor could run the watch for about a week. Now I just got the capacitor replaced with a newer part...they tell me the charge lasts for months on end. My aunt sent me another model for graduation too...I'm very pleased with these things, they're great

I say go with the Seiko 5 series. Best suggestion in this thread so far. For a watch I am giving as a gift, I wouldn't want to give a quartz watch, which in all honesty is 1 dollar watch. A mechanical watch shows a level of precision rarely seen in the machine world, and with an automatic watch, you never have to worry about winding the mainspring. A Seiko 5 series will last you a long time, with maybe the occasional stop (read every 5-10 years) by a watchmaker to have it relubricated. I know people with mechanical watches, where the movement has been going strong for decades.

Solid stainless Steel construction, display back, automatic winding movement, solid bracelet.....for $100 bucks it really cannot be beat, especially since it looks just like a 3K Rolex...I wear it to work and what not as I generally wear my Rolex on the weekends, this thing keeps excellent time, has a citizen myota 21 jewel movement...little sporty but I love it.

life is too short to wear a cheap watch, write with a cheap pen or drive a crap car...IMHO of course.

I had this exact decision to make last year, and I got my dad a skagen titanium watch. It was exactly $99. I got one for myself, and when my best friend saw mine, he got himself one too
They aren't the flashiest, but they are incredibly thin and light, you'll forget it's there

you will not find a Rado for his price range, generally those are upwards of a thousand dollars, why not give another totally useless recommendation such as tag while your at it

this is a great suggestion as well, Seiko makes an excellend product and online can be had at wonderful discounts...cared for properly a Seiko will last for life...the Invicta watch I pointed out also has a quality movement but IMHO not as nice as a Seiko...the Auto diver Seiko to me does not look as nice as the Invicta and the case isn't solid stainless but the movement is excellent.

Hey Super, when talking about a "quartz" movement generally it doesn't matter as they are all pretty darn durable, accurate, and easy to service (they just throw them away and replace the movement), heck even the ones I have gotten for free still run well to this day..only in rare cases such as the Rolex quartz movement or a mecha quartz movement where it is thermo compensated and utilizes many intriquite parts and a fine design does quartz "quality" come into play....then again those watches cost thousands upon thousands of dollars.

I am a bit of a watch snob where I tend to only focus on those which are automatic or manual wind movements, Seiko makes a few, they have a high end line called the grand seiko which is only distributed in japan and pieces start at 3K and up...however Seiko does make some Auto watches for under $200 which are very nice, the Auto diver is one of them. Pulsar is ok, but personally I would spend a little more and just go with an Auto Seiko as it is IMHO a better watch.

At, $100, I would go for a nice quartz watch, like the titanium Skagen that I got.
I am not a watch connoseur (sp?), but I do want my watch to be light, durable, well designed, low maintainance, and stay out of the way. I don't want to know it's there unless I need the time. But then again I am @n@l about weight and bulk in my accessories. Next time, I'll probably splurge for a Movado.

Hey Super,

It really depends on the individual and their tastes...some people like small, thin and light whereas others like big, bulky and sporty, and there are also those who like something in the middle...

Personally I like light watches but I also prefer the sporty look over that of the dress look, however ideally I would enjoying having a few nice watches for different occasions.

With re. to movado, generally I don't recommend them unless you are talking about their more unique models, overall they are not made that well, or at least not for what you pay...however the basic museum dial model which made them famous is an excellent dress watch for not a whole lot of money. If you like the look though then they are a better than most option...the internals on them though are no better than what you find in your seiko/skagen watches.

I received this Seiko automatic watch today. Hopefully my dad will like it. $44.75 shipped. I tried it on, and it does catch the hair a bit more than my Citizen Elegance series, but hopefully with adjusting the links, it won't for my dad.
