FFXI just as long, RO 2-3x as long, NWN 4-5x as long (and still going). WoW's brilliant in it's own right, they've done an amazing job making people come back time and again for the exact same thing with higher numbers and a few more polygons. It's the gold standard as far as making money is concerned, but I found it to be one of the least engaging and most dumbed down games around. Unless you really, really, really love collecting crap.
gotcha.. for your MMO fix you seem to prefer the Asian style "grinder" nothing wrong with that.
Myself now that I'm getting older (40)I prefer the faster easier attraction of WoW.. and raiding is the challenging part for me. If the game is too long to max level or the levels themselves are too long I lose interest.
WoW is successful here in the states mainly for that reason where FF L2 RO and others do better overseas Asia specifically.
You know WoW has arrived when you hear people talking about it in the corporate lunchroom and 12 outa 20 of my IT coworkers including our CIO and her Directors all play WoW fanatically. And that seems to be the same at the last 3 large corporations Ive worked for over the last 6 years. (including Chevron Corporate just for an Idea of how large these companies I'm talking about are.)
Hell even My GFs Orthopedic Surgeon who is about my age also admitted to having several L80s and being an active raider.
Seriously? these are all people that in the past would have never even thought of playing an MMO.
I think the numbers speak for themselves 12 million active WoW subscribers.. that's insane.
