Recommend a new DVD player..

Our current player occasionally freezes for an instant, and sometimes has small areas of 'blockiness' when playing DVDs. It's running through a Kenwood receiver into a Philips 20" TV..

I'd like something HDTV-friendly (unless it'd be cheaper to upgrade later..ie two years or so). Optical sound would be a plus -- would I notice any difference with it? (Kenwood HTB503 for sound)..

$60-ish would be nice, but it definitely has to be under $100..

Any ideas?

If you took what you squandered on the Apex, plus what you're about to spend now, you could have had a better quality unit that wouldn't be acting weird now.

I paid 50 bucks for it..probably well over a year ago...maybe two by now. It was worth it.

We had it connected to a 1986 TV with ancient (1995-era) Altec Lansing computer speakers...so it really didn't matter. While we don't have anything near high-end now (something like this and one of these), it's worth fixing the problem.

It's running through a receiver now, and it was running through a VCR before -- it might run better straight into the TV, but I'd rather run it through the receiver..just because. 😛

yeah i was gonna suggest the Philipps as well. Divx, xvid, mp3, region free, all burned discs, etc. Plus you should be able to get one at Target or Walmart easy.
