I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (purchased in August of 2003) with 15,000 miles. I don't really hate the car, but that fact that it consumes so much gasonline bothers my conscience (and to a lesser extent my pocket book).

So you want a $30K fuel efficient auto?

Accord Hybrid will fit your needs but I'd get a RWD coupe like a GTO, Mustang, RX8!

Mustang.......but that would be 1 guzzler to another. A hybrid would be right up your alley.

Another vote for the fossil fuel guzzling, ecology killing Mustang.

Fvck conservation. The faster we burn through all the fossil fuels, the faster the scientific community will come up with a better source of energy.

Remember, necessity is the mother of invention so do your part and buy a Mustang!

If Honda made an Accord hybrid coupe I'd be all over it. :(

For less than 30K you can get a Mini Cooper S w/a roots head package. Quick little sucker.

2005 TL and a 2003 GTP get almost the same gas mileage. You'd have to be a moron to soak yourself with all the depreciation off the GTP and buy the TL just for the hope of better gas mileage.

Since you'll take a bath on the GTP you obviously don't care about money, so I'm going to say get the newest Porsche 911 you can squeeze into for $30k and live like a king until it breaks down.

I was going to say the same thing. So you bought a new car in 2003, now its only been 2 years and your willing to lose what, half of what you paid for it originally only to do it all over again?

Just in case you didn't know (I'm only trying to be of help) Cars depreciate A LOT in the first 2 years. That is why you should consider buying a car thats at least 2 years old. Especially if your buying a new one every 2 years.

But then again - wait - nevermind, don't take my advise. If it wasn't for people like you with no real sense of consumerism, I'd never be able to find nice 2 year old cars with only 15k miles on it.

Word. This kind of spending is exactly how I can buy a car with 40k miles on it for half of what it cost new

But then we're supporting terrorists!

anyway, youseem to like decently fast, fun to drive cars and the prius/accord/civic hybrids are not tthat ufn.
get a toyota mr2 for 25k

it's got an anemic 138hp, but only pulling 2100lbs dry, it'll outhandle the crap out of anything else but a few exotics on the oad. also, it gets high 30s highway and with the extra 5k, invest in a 2zzge engine so you can have 6spd and 190hp, making it as fast as a 350z.

So basically I'm a prick because I drive a gas-guzzler, but I would be an idiot if I traded in the car because it is less than two-years-old.

if you want to save gas drive less, use public transportation, carpool etc.

don't throw thousands of dollars down the drain to save a couple hundred gallons of gas a year

Public transportation is not cheap around here. The bus passes here costs 90 bucks a month. I spend $100 in gas every month.

What kind of mileage are you getting with the GrandAm? It can't be THAT bad, can it? Is it paid for?

You're looking at $14,000 as a trade-in on that car. $16,700 if you can sell it to a private party. If your car is paid for, you're going to have to fork out (at least) $16,000 for a new, $30,000 car. Even at the minimum rated mileage (20mpg) and gas prices at $3 gallon (worst case scenario here), that $16,000 will buy 5300 gallons of gas, taking you a whopping 106,000 miles. That's assuming you earn no interest on that money and not accounting for inflation. Given your current rate of driving (15,000 in ~1.5years), that's 10 years of driving.

Just keep your current car. Drive it till the wheels fall off, that's the most affordable way to own a car anyway.
