I have had one of these and it recently stopped working. It appears that the red LED on it stopped functioning. I don't want to purchase the same one, so would like to know of a adapter that has worked well for others here. There are several on newegg, but they all seems to have some sort of issues with users reporting data loss or drive loss, burning, etc.

So, I gather it has stopped functioning as opposed to just the red LED?

Yeah, tried everything. The vantec tech support is pretty good, and they guided me through the steps to troubleshoot. At the end, they said that the adapter was defective.

Honestly, for the price, if it worked when it was working, I'd just get another. Unless, it only lasted a week or something.

I read some of the reviews on it and discovered it has a one year warranty. When you say you used it less than 10 times, did you install it each time or leave it plugged in? If you're past the one year, it still seems like a cheap price. There's a Rosewill for $20 and a Sabrent for $22. I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper and it's not a very common type of adapter. I'm as frugal (ok, cheap) as anyone but, unless you buy an adapter card, you're not going to find more utility or quality from something that cheap.

Mines is over the 1 year warranty. Was actually trying to see if anyone here used one and had a good experience with it. Doesn't look like it, thought that it was something most people would consider having due to its flexibility. $20-30 is what I was looking for, but the bigger concern is that the adapter doesn't fry the HD or cause data loss.
