I just bought a SLR with various lens and it actually gets anoying to just carry it around so I want to leave it around my neck. I find the basic strap hurts the neck after a while (this camera is like 15 pounds with the lens and flash kit) so I need something that will be comfortable even after wearing it for a while.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

A while ago I found that a heavy duty strap from a camera or laptop bag is much better than straps specifically made for cameras. Dig through your stuff and find an old bag if you have one.
OR, go to Staples/OfficeMax/OfficeDepot and look at all the bags they have. Pay attention to the straps on said bags. At least one of them will look very comfortable.
Then, go back that night with your ninja gear. Because paying for a whole fucking bag when you only want the strap is silly. :ninja:

I've found that you can just ratchet up the strap until it holds the camera tight against the back of the head. The strap basically becomes a headband.

Sometimes I use it to strap the camera to the back of my head, then I can rest my sunglasses on top of them.

It looks like two cameras, but that's actually one, they cover both eyes and actually block the sun too.

If this is a serious non parody thread, look at the Crumpler "Industry Disgrace." I have one for my 7d, and it makes a world of difference over the stock strap.

I use something called the "R Strap" made by Blackrapid. high quality, uses the tripod mount. It's very quick to draw, and it goes over your shoulder.

The fact that it uses the tripod mount is the deal breaker... I like being able to leave my tripod plate on all the time

15 pounds? I don't know of anything handheld that's more than 10 pounds or so....

Canon 1D Mark IV - 2.6 lbs
Canon 300mm f/2.8 (biggest/heaviest lens considered handholdable) - 5.6 lbs.
Canon 580EX II - 1.2 lbs
-------
9.4 lbs
