So family members <with kids> are heading to Gulf Shores AL for their vacation (via vehicle and not airplane) and most of the places are almost $100/nite or up. I never been there and have no clue.

Anyone been there or know a good hotel to stay for a week in the Gulf Shores AL area? They don't mind drive about 15 minutes to the hotel if they have a good deal. They will begin their trip next week.

TIA.

Look for a hotel in the Foley, AL area. It's about 15-20 minutes away from the beach.

You probably won't find anything <$100 near the beach during the summer.

It's a beautiful place... if you want to be on the beach front, look at Orange Beach.

I live in the Auburn, AL area and I spent a week with my wife in Gulf Shores a few summers ago. Katrina and Ivan took out a lot of the mom and pop places, so it seems to be more of the big chains both in hotels and resturants.

It you make it to Panama City Beach, GO TO ANGELO"S STEAKHOUSE! Best steak in the US in my opinion. Also check out the Floribama, half of the bar is in Florida and half in ALabama.

If you are a animal lover, check out alligator alley and the Gulf Coast Zoo.

Alligator Alley is home of Captain Crunch, the gator that holds the worlds record for the strongest bite.

Alabama Guld Coast Zoo was featured in the Discover Channel series "The Little Zoo that Could". They were hit by 3 major hurricanes in one summer.

Thanks for all the replies. Look like I will ask them to stay in Foley or nearby areas to save some money.
