my boss has a Magellan RoadMate 800, but it might be a little pricey. how about the 760?

No. The position data is free -- all you need is a receiver.

I would recommend that you go with Garmin. I have owned a Magellan GPS for years, and feel that, while their hardware is excellent, their software can be problematic.

If it were me, I would go for a Garmin 60Cx (or 60CSx). Those are great in the car, and also in a boat, in the woods, etc. That is a general all-around good-for-everything GPS.

Garmin Nuvi 350

I've had it for a couple months and used it in 3 states. It's very good. They frequently update it as well so I have it setup to e-mail me when there's a new update. So far there have been 2 so that might mean one a month.
 
Whatever you do get one that talks to you and get one with a touch screen.

I have a friend with an Infinity and it doesn't have a touch screen. That pretty much makes it worthless.

CostCo has the Garmin StreetPilot c320 on sale for $269 shipped 🙂

It doesn't speak the street names but it does say "in 400 feet turn right" which works for me.

I think I might just get this on myself. Although saving up for awhile and getting a complete in-dash system like the Pioneer AVIC-N3 or the Kenwood KVT-617DVD is tempting since I want to get Sirius eventually too. Although I'm impatient so I might end up just getting the Garmin.

how does that compare to the Navman icn510?
 
I recommend you get a well-known name brand like Garmin or Magellan for one reason: updated maps. I have a Navman 510. Navman is a company from New Zealand. They have absolutely no customer service. I don't even know when/how I can get map updates (last maps, which came with the unit, were from 2003). They don't respond to email.

Get a GPS unit from a company that distributes new maps off their website.

I have the Navman icn520 and I hate it. So much so that I just replaced it with a TomTom One, gen 2.
 
I bought a Magellan roadmate 300 the other day, and though it is not even close to being the best, it is on clearance at wal-mart right now for $150

What did you hate about it?
 
Used to have a Magellan Roadmate 700 or something Not a good gps system imho. Maps were not exactly accurate to say the least.

I just ordered a Garmin Nuvi 360 2 days ago. Seems to be getting excellent reviews. I dont think anything could be worse than the Roadmate. 5-10 minutes to get a satellite connection, maps that once showed a destination about 1 mile away from the true location and jumped my percieved location from road to road in the Outer Banks, completely confusing me.
 
I am thinking of getting a Nuvi 360. I would move up to the 660, but I've read bad things about the FM traffic data being useless, and I don't want the FM transmitter. The only thing I'd want from the 660 is the larger screen, however I don't think it's worth an extra ~$250.

Anyone use both a Nuvi 660 and 360 and have comments on how they compare in use?
