Are there any cool games that are fun multiplayer (via web not local) and not so main stream? Something that we can co-op but not -vs- other people. Serious Sam, Trine 2 are examples of games we enjoyed

Not sure if this falls into that catagory, but Team Fortress 2 is awesome!! (and free).

Path of Exile, a nice F2P (true) Diablo clone.
L4D2 (mainstream)
Orcs Must Die! 2 (only 2-player)
Borderlands 2 (mainstream)
Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed (I guess vs., but it's a kart game)
Magicka
Iron Brigade (only 2-player, i believe)

We downloaded a 4 pack of Sonic All Stars Racing for $29.99 and have been enjoying it thoroughly! Thanks!

Orcs must die! 2 was so much fun, but yeah it's only for 2 people. Maybe try an RTS like dawn of war, they're fun with lots of people.

I'd second the Borderlands 2 game. I game with two and sometimes 3 others on it and its loads of fun like that.

If you think you'd enjoy a strategy game, you could try Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. (It even goes on sale for $10 sometimes.) It's a slower-paced RTS (Real Time Strategy game) with 4x type elements (Civilization-type elements).

We are looking for a game we can pick up and just play without a big learning curve.. RTS dont typically fit that

Limited to 2 players:
saints row 2
saints row 3
Fear 3 - its mad funny listening to pointman friend say
"can you pause for a sec while i turn on the lights, i cant take this game in the dark that well..."

torchlight 2 was also fun.
