Need a recommendation for a good External Enclosure for a 3.5" EIDE HD drive (200GB).
This is for a friend that wants to use it for back-up of laptop.

Has to be USB 2.0 & Firewire combo. Looked at Newegg, any other recs?

TIA.

Also, I bought THIS FROM NEWEGG, no longer avail

(Kingwin KH-350UF-S) case, but the firewire won't work. Bought a 4pin to 6pin adapter to plug into my laptop, but drive not recognized. Thought my cable ($2) was too cheap, so bought a $20 cable from Walmart and it still won't recognize. Tried Kingwin site, but no firewire drivers, USB drivers were for win98, and USB 2.0 worked fine.

Tried uninstalling the firewire driver, then have system automatically install driver. Ext HD still not recognized.

Avoid the Vantec Nexstar 2 like the plague. In fact, I won't ever be getting something from this company again, based on this drives quality and performance. Back part broke under normal use; corrupted hard drive (had to reformat the drive); erratic dependability... Everything an external shouldn't.

I have one of these that I use to transfer data from my main computer at home and my laptop. I like the look, and the quality is top notch (I've had it almost a year). Once I replace the last of my PATA hard drives for SATA I'll get a couple more of these for external backup. They stack well too.

re. Kingwin. Have you been to their site to look for info? (Hmmmm, I've not been able to get thru to their site today.)

Quite a few here seem to like the Bytecc enclosures.
