Recommend a Digital Camera

My boss is asking for advice on a digital camera.

4-5 megapixels
up 500 dollars to spend (would like to spend less, but 500 is the ceiling).

Any suggestions?

Family snapshots? Landscapes? Does he currently use a camera with manual settings?

Its for his wife .... I'm guessing all of the above.

Does size matter?

Personally I'm looking at the Canon SD300 (or SD200 but I like the metal case on the SD300 better) to get this Christmas as my backup camera. Very nice size, fairly decent photo quality, and great S-series construction. Another possibility if a slightly bigger size is ok is the S400/410, better photo quality than the SD300 (at Dell for $250ish).
