I've been looking at the canon g2 and canon g3 recently.. I had an elph, the size was small but the battery life sucked! so i don't trust any elphs at all.

I want a bulkier camera.. more standard looking... plus the canon g2 is 4 mp. and $~300,

update this thread with the choice you made when you get the camera

What kind of battery was it using? The Li battery with the SD100 has an excellent life span.

I wanna get one too. I think 3/4 MP would be fine for me. I am interested in getting a camera that takes movies also. I have heard that the sony's have no restriction on the duration of movie(depends on the memory) but canon has limit on buffer size like 3mins or something. I have been waiting on a deal on A70/80. There have been some deals on canon SD100 etc. so should I wait for a deal on the A series or go with the deals going around. Another thing are the sony's better than the canons ?

Minolta DiMage Xt

More compact than the S400, almost exact same features, cheaper, but uses SD memory!

Hmm...

Good pick :D About $360 from dell when you catch em on sale.

I have an A60. Good to start out with, lots of manual control to learn and play with but it's getting to the point where I'm seriously thinking about moving on and getting something nicer, maybe a G3 or G5 if I can find a good deal.

A70 is excellent and has some of the best macro in its price range (important to me). I have one and it's stellar. I'm thinking of getting the A80 as it's even better at everything.

The S230 is a great camera, but it's just not quite as sharp as the A70.

OneCall.com has a nice deal going on until midnight tonight - get the Canon S400 and a 256MB CF card for $359 plus around $10 shipping. If you don't need the CF card, you could sell it for around $50-60 brining your cost of the camera closer to $300.

Just a follow-up on this thread:

I purchased the Canon S400 w/ 256MB CF card for $359.99 shipped. Camera is 329.99 shipped w/ free 64MB CF Card, but it's 24.99 or 29.99 off larger cards, and I opted for the 256MB for $29.99 @ Amazon.com

Canon SD100

That also gets my vote but it uses SD not CF media.

Also check out the Canon PowerShot A70 or S400.

The SD100 would be SOLD if it didn't use SD memory. My old Samsung uses CF, and I have an 8MB and a 64MB I would like to use w/ the new camera. Is SD cheap?

The SD100 is $240 thru mysimon.com, and the lowest price for the S400 is $330.

get teh canon S230 its just like the S400 but its only 3.2 MP and its costs as much as the SD100, actually its the same camera as the SD100 just its CF not SD
