So I've decided it's finally time to replace the venerable Blinea 19'' CRT I've been using for my gaming rig since the 90ies.

Usage profile is something like:
50% games
25% watching DVDs
20% web-surfing&Emails
5% other

Since I do enjoy Half Life, Crysis, et al., a fast reaction time is paramount.

Since I also very much enjoy the occasional horror game, it is equally important that black is black.
As in, darker then a black cat in a coal cellar on an uninhabited island during an overcast, moonless night at midnight.
Darker then the Hawking radiation emanating from the event horizon of a galaxy-mass black hole.

Not grey.

Not a slight silvery sheen.

Fucking BLACK!

You can see why I'm a decade behind the curve on switching to an LCD. :\

Anyway, good static contrast and luminance uniformity, as well as decent color balance and saturation are also criteria.
What I DON'T need are all sorts of multimedia "features" that clutter things up. I'm somewhat of a purist, so the less bells&whistles, the better.
And if it wasn't obvious from the above on black being black, even slight backlight bleed is a big no-no.

Price should be 500ish, but that part is negotiable.
 
Any LCD is going to have at least a little backlight bleed - It's a shame they don't make small plasma screens.

Already looked at those and unfortunately, the reaction time is way to slow for a gaming display.

Right now I'm considering the Eizo Foris FS2331-BK or Samsung 2333T (which uses the same panel), which are C-PVA displays with supposedly game-worthy reaction time, but there are scant few reviews out there for either.

 
The reaction of the monitor C1 suggested is 8ms. If you think this is to high you must go for tn panel, it doesnt have the blacks or color spectrums like a c pva panel. samsung xl2370 seems like a good tn monitor, it is led backlit so the blacks are deep and contrasts are good as well. Although i dont do serious gaming, but personally i think 8ms is not much since humans have a reaction time of 200ms, that 8ms wont do anything. It is better to go with the monitor C1 suggested.

I think you may be confusing monitor reaction time with input lag? While related, it is visual artifacts such as blurring or ghosting I'm concerned about, not that I'll get fragged because my monitor is too slow 😛

Anyway, I'm also looking at the Fujitsu Scenicview P22W-5 ECO IPS right now. Anyone got some experience to share about that model?
