My friend has the P4 3.0E

I installed his hs/f using artic silver 5.

His cpu is running stock speeds.
He get cpu temps around 55 idle and @ heavy load the most was low 70's.

Recommendation of a cooler. I rather it be loud than too hot. So noise is not an issue.

Also I need a recommendation on 120mm case fans that really move some air.

The Thermalright SP94 is about the best you can get for the P4. I have one on my 3.2es and at 4.0ghz it idles at 36c and runs 50c after an hour of prime.

The XP-90 won't compete with the SP-94 simply because aluminum is far less efficient than copper. The XP-120 will come close or match it with a fast loud 120mm fan. The primary reason to go with the XP-120 would be noise, you can run a slower 120mm fan and push the same air as a fast 92mm. But IMO most people are hyped up about he XP-120 for the "WOW" factor.... the thing is HUGE :Q There are some good comparisons between the 120 and the 94... in most tests the 94 wins ;)

Hyped up? have you tryed the xp-120???? Its one of the best if not the best heatsink for ordinary aircooling. Im using a sunon 120mm silent and keeps my prescott 3.2@4ghz idle 40 load 55 (also 1 80mm case fan) one nice thing is the extra cooling it gives to the MB and mosfets power circuitry ..if you are overclocking you know that any extra colling provided is good!! SP-94 dosent deliver that extra cooling.
XP-120 is easily powerful enough for very serious overclocking Id'say for the prescott cpu xp-120 is the best. BUT if you have same mobo as me be careful with the installation because the capacitor close to the cpu will be tilted slightly..but it works :D

Anyway you cant go wrong with either XP-120, Xp-90 or SP-94

Guess you didn't read the whole thread  We have the same board, same cpu running at the same speed....... only difference is yours runs approximatley 5c hotter.

maybe his vcore is higher than yours or his room temps are warmer.

anandtech chose the zalman 7000 when comparing heat of P4Cs and Es. that what I chose as well.

is that a brand new boxed CPU? stock intel coolings should be enough if your not overclocking and also if im not mistaken, already comes with a thermal compound on it...

The XP-90 or SP-94 are both great heatsinks. The only downside to the SP-94 is you need to remove the mobo and the plastic retention bracket, and it is very heavy. The XP-90 snaps right in. With the XP-90 and a 92mm fan at 3100 rpm my 3.2E at 3.8 idles at 38 and under load is at 45.

It is an oem. Its seems the SP-94 has been discontinued. A few sites say that and everyone shows not in stock.
