Recommend a Corded Gamming Mouse To Me

Okay, I love my Explorer Intellimouse 3.0 the newer 4.0 of which I own two REALLY SUCKS because it doesnt scroll incrementally which is great for scrolling through different weapons or inventory etc. in games and the fact that the center button which doubles as as the wheel with tilt does not respond when pressed so often it is useless in games. Yes, I use the centermouse button for games and work constantly and I am just lucky to still have one Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 left. Now, since Microsoft has discontinued the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and it is hard to find other than used or new at a crappy price I want to find a replace that is at least as good and hopefully butter with the same features and dont care if it has tilt scrolling or not. Remember that gamming is a priority and a working center mouse button is also very important. I dont want cordless since they are heavy with the battery and they do lag in response times. NO CORDLESS MOUSE recommendations please.

Thanks, and I know that was long winded but I really wanted to impress on those trying to help me out exactly what I am looking for.

P.S. Five computers so I will need new mice to replace my 4.0 pieces of crap and my wireless one. Yes, I am finally willing to move to another brand although I have been using microsoft mice for about 15 years. Stupid MS how the hell they screw up a perfectly good mouse and release that 4.0 junk, I dont know.

First off, if you run a search on this forum you'll find a whole lot of threads almost exactly like this (most include suggestions for both corded and cordless, of which you could just ignore the cordless).

Now that that's said, I can't tell you what gaming mouse you would like best. I can tell you that I use the MX510 and didn't like it very much for the first week of use, but after getting used to it I wouldn't go with any other mouse. It really just comes down to personal preference, and unfortunately if you don't have a friend that has a mouse you'd be interested in trying for gaming, you can't borrow it and really get a feel for it. Just putting your hand on the mouse in a store like BB or CC will do nothing, because if you are used to the feel of a mouse different than the one you are testing at that moment, you will automatically throw the one you are trying out as a possibility, even though you haven't truly taken the time to get used to the feel of the new mouse. Who knows, the mouse you don't like at all (in my case it WAS the MX510) right off the bat may have been, in actuality, your top choice if you had taken then time to get used to the new feel.

I love my MX510, and I guess I'll go ahead and say that I recommend it, BUT if you don't like the feel of it right off the bat, try what I do out: Go to the store and buy it, try it out for a week or two, and if you still don't like it, return it and get a different one to try out. That's the only way that you can truly decide on the mouse for you.

chrisbtx yes, I was probably going to do the Best Buy trial thing after getting some recommendations. Is the mx510 corded with 5 buttons and a center wheel button that works and scrolls incrementally, reacts fast in games? MX710 or whatever it is work better?

MX510 has 8 buttons (including scroll wheel), it's the end all and be all of mice, period. Get it, you won't be sorry...

Okay, guys that what I wanted to hear a consensus of opinion on a particular mouse. I am going to pick one up this weekend and play with it for a week or two before I decide to buy more.

After readin reviews on it I am very confident that this mouse will work out. Woot, finally a replacement.

After a week of using, the Logitech MX510 is the best mouse for gaming.

You just have to tweak the settings a bit, adjust the speed, etc.

My gaming has improved.

Make sure you install the software that comes with your MX510.

If the Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 isn't your cup of tea, the MX510 would be the only other corded mouse I'd recommend. Very comfortable and precise.

That is what good mice have cost when not on sale for a long time over the years. I dont think they sell OEM version of the MX510 or newegg would have it. When the Intellimouse explorer 3.0 and earlier versions first came out it was like 59 then down to 49 then down to 39 then 34.99 and oem for 29.99 / 24.99 and less. I dont mind paying $40+ for the MX510 as long as I am happy with it. Anyone who wants an advantage in online games would pay far more for whatever would give it too and still do. All depends on what you want to use it for.

I totally agree. I play lots of online FPS's and need a good mouse, so the best mouse out there is the MX510. It has really imroved my shooting and movement.

But to be honest, I didnt notice any improvement during my first week over my old mouse. In fact I sucked a bit more with the MX510.

But then I installed the software and tweaked the settings.

So learn the lesson: Make sure you install the software.

They only had a red one there :( so I had no other choice. But it still looks pretty :D nonetheless.

This mouse is really great.

I got my MX510 today and I can tell I will like it already but I got a problem with the software. I installed the software and for some reason it is using my Microsoft intellimouse software when I try to use it? WEIRD. I guess I will have to unistall my Microsoft mouse completely and reinstall the logitech software or see what happens first. Is this a known issue?

Oh, and I have never used a cord bongie for a corded mouse before what one do you recommend if they really work?

P.S. I got the red one they didnt have any blue ones but it goes well with my black mousepad.

Yep, uninstalling the Microsoft software fixed the software issue but I have to say the microsoft button programmability is better. I am missing using button four to close the current window open. Logitech has a close application option you can use but it closes the whole program running not just the current window your using within an application or whatever your using. :-(. Otherwise no more complaints yet. Looking for a solution to that I found others posting by users saying they hate the software and that it has problems crashing in games and stuff. Do, any of you have those problems? Like it fails to keep settings? Hopefully logitech is working on newer drivers for this mouse to fix some of these issues. When was this mouse released to the public?

Just one more thing:

Make sure you remove the weight from inside the shell of the mouse... I did about a week after I got mine and wow! The thing felt so much lighter... it made it much better for gaming... especially when paired with my Func Surface 1030....

Just remove that weight... you'll be happy if you game a lot.

Oh yeah, be careful for the springs inside... one popped out when I opened my shell carelessly and it took me a week to figure out what part inside the mouse it was supposed to go with!

I think i'll keep my mouse the way it is, I want my gun to be stable while I move around really quick. So a slightly heavier mouse isnt a bad thing

There are not many options, it's not really a question...
If not Explorer, then MX500/510.
