(Or Convince my wife to get a damn artificial tree)

Got sick and tired of the crap plastic box that held our tree and threw it out last year. It was a pain in the ass trying to get a tree in and praying that it would sit up straight.

So here are my options:

1. Buy a new stand. I see some good examples on Amazon, but plenty also have their negative reviews of trees falling and such. Namely, these:

http://www.amazon.com/Swivel-Straight-Tree-Stand-20In/dp/B003A5TXG4/ref=zg_bs_13350211_5

2. Forum convince's my wife that artificial tree's are better and to stop buying the stupid real trees.

It's all about the decorations and the style you two are going for. Real or fake doesn't matter as long as it looks good who cares.
I used to be a real tree kinda guy like your wife but a few years ago we got a nice plastic one and we like it. Honestly if you buy quality it's hard to tell the difference.

Don't have to convince me. Real trees are just a pain in the ass, waste of money, waste of time having to get it... plus all that environmental junkie stuff :D

Holy shit ... you're actually prepared to pay $110 for a freaking christmas tree stand?

What's wrong with the old tried and true $17 metal stand?

This is the one we had when I was a kid. It had a deep water reservoir and the legs folded out to maybe an 18" diameter. We never lost a single tree, even with 50 lbs of lights and ornaments and a crazy cat that would climb up into it at least once a year.

Aaand where is this $17 metal stand? And does it hold up well? Rust easily pouring water in it constantly for ~20+ days?

Get an artificial tree

My parents last real tree fell over about 6 times.

You couldn't look at it weird or else it'd pass out.

Some of the new artificial trees look incredibly real. My mom bought a new one a couple years back and it even FEELs real when you touch it. It's like some kind of rubber/plastic for the branches.

We had the one in the second link and used it for 10-15 years. The only real issue with it is that it adds 3-4 extra inches in height off the floor but the swivel makes it a breeze to adjust the tree to be perfectly straight. We bought the one in your first link last year and after figuring out the clunky multi-function lever it worked well. With both stands we had much better stability than we got with the conventional stands.

We have used this same stand going on 15 years now and never had a tree fall. Works for both large and small trees and doesn't rust.
This.

Had a cone shaped plastic one some years back. Worked just fine. It also worked fine condensing some moisture under the cone....the oak floors didn't appreciate that very much.

something with a double row of screws like this or this works well for both securing the tree and allowing you to adjust the angle

(the low reviews are from idiots who thought the screws were supposed to bore into the tree. They're not, they just press against it and hold it in place)

If tree leans, run a string from tree top to the nearest curtain rod and turn the tree so it leans away from said rod. Might want to choose a string with color that blends well with the backdrop. Think of it as a guy wire.
I've had to do this once or twice - depends on the tree you get.

Just go to HD and buy a $20 stand. WTF is this crap about $100+ stands? What a waste of money.

Thats kinda cool. I have a fake 2 footer in my closet somewhere that I used to use as a Charlie Brown Tree, but you can't do any better than this one unless you get a real branch.

Yeah, instead of the standard red ornament that hangs off a lonely branch I added a Hallmark plane. Can't remember what model it is now. Some prop.

tell your kids to steady the tree or santa wouldn't be able to put gifts below it.
