Recommend a CC

I've known I shouldn't be using my debit card online for quite awhile but with Christmas season coming up I figure it might be best to go ahead and make the change now since I'll probably be doing quite a bit of online shopping. The main items I care about are great customer service if charge backs are needed and no annual fee.
Perks are good I guess but not entirely necessary as I doubt I'll use this thing too often.

Any suggestions?

If all your worried about is protection via chargebacks etc... a debit card offers you that same protection.

Not quite.

When it comes to detecting fraud, debit cards have much less protection compared with a credit card.

does your debit card say "visa" or "mastercard" on it? then it's protected up the wazoo.

otoh, you should have a line of credit

a. emergencies
b. credit exposure (total amount of credit you've been aproved for) is now a good thing, and will raise your credit score

Citi and Disco offer virtual CC# through their website. You can make shadow CC# for online purchase.

Yeah I understand my debit card (being a Visa) is protected. However, if someone drains my bank account because they got ahold of it I'm screwed as I'm sure the charge back is not immediate.

I have great credit and should be able to get almost any card anyone wants to suggest. I'd actually like to go ahead and get a 'real' credit card since who knows maybe I'll decide I want to make all of my purchases on it and just pay it off at the end of the month.

If you spend over $6500/year with a CC, the Amex Blue Cash card might be a good choice.

I personally have an Amex Blue Student and a Citi Premier Pass MC (used to be a Dividend Visa Student before the rewards went to the crapper). I don't really choose the best card for getting rewards, just what's most convienent. Having a Citi bank account gets me thankyou points every month, so I can tack on more with the MC and I get 1 point for every 3 miles flown. The Amex Blue is just 1 dollar per point in most cases; just have this card as an alternate to my MC.

Not true BTW. Per federal regulations they need to put the funds back within 10 days. However, any decent bank does it the next day. But yes if you dont have a credit card it isnt bad to get one. I like the chase freedom but they killed some of the rewards.
