In addition to those already mentioned...

Are You Being Served?
Keeping up Appearances

I can't say I'd sit and watch these series straight through, but I've seen a few episodes of each and thought they were funny.

RED DWARF!!! I'm on the last season and I'm very sad that I won't get to see more episodes. I did notice there is some other thing called Back to Earth or something that is part of Red Dwarf so I'll have to check it out.

GREEN WING
!!! amazingly hilarious hospital comedy. Funniest show I've seen since It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

BLACK BOOKS - Comedy about a anti-social guy who owns a book store and his co-worker/maid/friend and a female friend who was also in Green Wing.

Neverwhere - kind of odd story based on Neil Gaiman's book. Pretty interesting though.

My Family - hilarious sitcom about a dysfunctional family. The older brother and the dad really make the show.

The Office - the orginal!!

IT Crowd - funny comedy about guys that work in IT.

Mr. Bean - Always liked Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean.

If you like skit comedy, Little Britain and Katherine Tate. Absolutely Fabulous is also at the top of my list. Extras. You could also try Skins for drama.

We're enjoying Being Human. Watch the DVD version though. The versions on BBC America have been edited for commercial time. Sucks.

Thanks for mentioning Back to Earth! I've like Red Dwarf for years but hadn't heard of Back to Earth. I'll have to check it out.

Not modern anymore, but Mr. Bean.

Black Adder is way, way better than Mr Bean.
also find any rowan atkinson live sketches you can on youtube or whatever, the guy is awesome

Yeah I agree completely, except IMO avoid season 1 of Blackadder though because the dry humour wasn't present. I don't like Mr Bean or Blackadder season 1, too much slapstick.

Blackadder is probably my favorite. But of course, not everyone likes British humor so that is personal preference

Also loved Fawlty Towers back in the day. That show is old though - from the 70s I think.
