Recommend a 19" CRT...

Criteria:

  • Must be flat shadow mask CRT.
High refresh rates at high resolutions - must be able to (at least) do 1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz.
    Must display clear, crisp text.
    Black cabinet.
Want to try to keep budget to monitors $300 and under.

I've recently returned an NEC FE991SB because the text was far too blurry and I couldn't stand the visible support wires from the aperture grill.

Currently considering NEC FE990SB and Samsung 997DF.

Believe me, if you experienced blurry text with the 991 it is your video card.
I don't think so. Check any review and you'll find the single most common complaint is blurry text. I'm running a 9700 Pro.

From ZDNet:

If you care about seeing only photos and other graphics in all their glorious color, you'll like the FE991SB. But if you work with written documents, be prepared for blurry text.
If accurate color in a moderately priced display is crucial to you, this CRT may fit the bill. But if you look at spreadsheets and text all day, don't even consider it.

Go to your local Officedepot and pick up a KDS 19inch XtremeFlat. It'll do up to 1600x1200 @ 75HZ for $99 ($199 - $99 MIR). Works great for me.🙂 Also comes in a nice gray/silver housing.
