Save your cash and go over the top - Gigaworks S750 for $404 on Newegg.

Your rig looks pretty nice, I say have awesome speakers to complement...

The Z-680's ARE awesome speakers. Some of the best i've heard for a PC. IMO the other one's aren't worth the extra money. Why pay 200 more dollars for a 7.1 that will sound about the same as the 680's, or 100 more for the slightly better sounding Klipisch Promedia Ultras? The 680's even have a built in decoder so you can use them with a DVD player, ect. Value wise, the 680's blow everything away. The 680's are half the price of most of the the competition, and they sound wonderful.. sound wise they're probally in the top 5 PC speakers made.

Logitech z-680s are nice but many people find their bass boomy and exaggerated. If you're going for something a bit more balanced, try the Megaworks 550... they have a better midrange and are better for music. If you do a lot more gaming though, the boomy bass might be the thing for you. It should depend on your uses.

As for grohl's recommendation fo the gigaworks system, it is true that investing a bit more can get you better quality. Both the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra (~350) or Gigaworks s700 (~320) would have tighter, more controlled bass, better midrange, and their satellites have tweeters, so definitely better highs. I would consider saving up a bit more and getting one of those systems if you're already thinking about the z680s.

read his budget, he only has 200$.

frisbee mentioning that the sub is very boomy is true, and the quality of sound is not all that good. however, most typical users don't pay that much attention to sound and just want something loud and powerful... so it'd work for you.

Let me clarify.

Comparing the z680s to the s750 is difficult, sonic quality is a bit in the listeners opinion. Obviously comparing a 5.1 to a 7.1 system isn't fair either.

Yes, thank you, I read what the budget was. This forum is all about opinions, and mine was briefly posted above. To expound on my thoughts a bit, I think the monitor and the speakers are often ignored when most of us spend cash on upgrades. Frankly, the z680s are a very nice purchase for the price. Read my post again - go over the top - my point was that if it were my system, I would try and figure a way to make the S750s fit in to the budget somehow. I happened to get mine for $350 shipped when they were first out.

And finally, my roommate has the z680s. In his small room these things are really nice. In the larger room where my rig is, the s750s fill the room with a noticeable improvement in sonic quality.
