Jesus, you dont know what downfiring is but would recommend a sub?!
Anyways...Adire Shiva. $125 a peice. 12". Very good sub for the price, at with your price range you could run 2, even 3. But, if theres ANY way possible to swing a 15".... . Just the most badass sub ever IMO. Adire Tumult

Maybe you should just get a component sub and point teh sub down at teh floor by turning teh box to face it. ;)

hey, im not into home audio, im more into car audio, hence my sig.

Im not sure how it would hold up in the H/T field, but if you have earth shattering power, and want earth shattering bass, get the Resonant Engineering HC, 12" respl.com

good subs, but the shiva is a good h/t sub as reccomended above

it may be slightly over your budget, but definitely check out SVS! I have the 25-31PCi, and it scares me. :D

Do a search for head to head tests with the SVS 25-31 or 20-36 vs. the HTF-2. The SVS comes out on top each time.

However, the VTF-3 can more than hold its own, but costs $849.

IMO, for ~ $500, the 25-31 PCi is the best bang for the buck.

When I get a new sub, it'll probably be the 20-36 just because I like my lows. :)

I know but he wanted to stay below $500. I love the SVS. But with shipping on their cheapest model you're at about $575.

You could also try HSU Research STF-2 for $399 plus $25 shipping. With SVS sub you have to conisder the size of the sub. It's huge and it's not a good looking sub but SVS Sub does kick ass.

I also suggest an SVS, but perhaps you'd want to look at adire's site, as they offer completed subs in addition to just drivers.

There's always the option of finding "B" stock merchandise at the SVS site. Deals do come up there from time-to-time, but one has to check daily. Personally, I want to go for the PB2-ISD. :) - Then again, it's $950.

Yes, it is, very good. I got mine from a reseller on ebay about a year ago which saved $50 off the HSU site price, and included the rca cable you will need. I'm sure he's still around.

Ok, so box size and power available?
Also, in my opinion (And this is MY OPINION) people spend too much time on sub's. It reproduces bass. Thats about it. Its a key component to a system, but the midrange and highs are FAR more important to a quality system. Regardless, alot of good options listed. Might check out this forum
