Well my summer vacation started a couple days ago and I have nothing to do. I need a game to take up my time :)

So what is a really good and long RPG? I'm thinkin Balder's Gate would be good...

This is an older one but the story line and the overall playability was awesome, its called Lands of Lore.

When it first came out they offered a million dollars to anyone who could beat it in six months. I dont think anyone did, then the hint books came out, and a lot of people started beating it. It took me about 3 years total to beat that game, but with a lot of long breaks. Lands of Lore II came out, taking advantage of the newer graphics capabilities, but i just didnt get that much into that one, wasn't as addictive i guess.

I've heard NADA bad comment about BG.

Course, the ONLY game my sister-in-law plays is Heroes III, which I also recommend.

I'm in a quandary as to what to start next, also. Sure enough, if I start BG, they'll bring out Diablo II...oooh, yeah, that's the ticket. Guess I'll start it.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3

The Armageddon's Blade expansion pack is worth is due to the upgrades, for the most part. Don't know about the Shadow of Death one though. My wife has gotten close to trashing this box while i'm playing Homm3.

I didn't like BG.

I don't like controlling 6 characters at once. I like controlling my character alone. Like Asheron's Call.

I'm beta testing DiabloII now and I must say its a ton of fun. It will be released next week. However, note that though DiabloII has a much richer storyline than the first Diablo and now has much more diversity, it's still more of hack and slash/rpg hybrid, than say a Baldur's Gate or even Asheron's Call. Still, with it random map generation, huge character skill base and unique and rare items, it can absorb hours of your time while you hunt for treasure and develop your character. I'm definately hooked.

I heard Fallout was a great RPG, but I only play console RPGs so I don't know for myself.

If youre thinking about console rpgs, I highly suggest FF7, or grab a snes emulator and play chrono trigger, FF3 and Earthbound...earthbound is a bit childish, but it was FUN.

AC Bloze....
The Monster AI is retarded and the networking Sucks.
All you ever hear is people yelling LAAAAAAG!
The one thing it has going for it is you only have to Zone when you enter a dungeon. The outside world is one continuous map (unlike EQ) and is Extremely HUGE! Too many monsters though. Probably 250,000 monsters over the entire map at one time. Everywhere you go, the map is littered with them.

Psshh...EverQuest is just constant killing, and not even FUN when you hit high levels at all, you just SIT there...

Anyway, some good RPGs..Deus Ex looks to be awesome, for those already out, Fallout 1 and 2 kick ass, and Planescape Torment is probably the best PC RPG I've ever played.

Zorn--Diablo II. Don't just leave me hanging. Tell me more. Have you started a thread on it anywhere?

You say it will be released next week? Like where, what time do they open, should I get the whatever limited edition? Please tell more, so I don't have to start BG.

That is the ONE game I did not order online, because, when it is out, I want it like yesterday, or preferably sooner.

I immensly enjoyed Everquest until I hit about level 30 or so....the pro's of the game is that it is so unsctructered in what you have to do in the game...the cons is the same thing, it can be difficult to find a good quest or not get bored. I once spent 6 hours just fishing from the dock in Qeynos because I couldnt think of anything else to do.

EQ is a perpetual cycle of...

Kill stuff, to get experience to gain levels so you can kill bigger stuff so you can get more experience so you can gain more levels so you can kill tuffer stuff...

Kill stuff, to make money so you can get better armor so you can kill better stuff so you can make more money so you can get better armor so you can kill better stuff...

It gets old REALLY REALLY Fast...

I prefer games that have a little more adventure to them...

Most RPG's I find have that same prob....but some have richer story lines....I only play RPG's on playstation, and I have three hanging right now because they all got to that incredibly boring point in the game when you have to spend a lot of time level building or doing incredibly stupid things like fishing for hours to get 1 item you need. LOL.....

I have played FF7 twice and it is immensely entertaining, but right now I am near the end of FF8, about to go to the last disc....I also have Star Ocean and Legend of Legaia....both of which have great features and unique battle systems....but I am procrastinating....hey maybe I'll pull them out in the next few days and see what kinda damage I can do.....

There are sooooo many RPG's coming out now.....they have been limited....so I am looking forward to a new purchase soon....:)

Wow thanks for all the input! I only have a PC, no consoles for me so I'm limited there. I played FF7 back when I did have a PSX and I loved it! I also started to play Planescape: Torment and I got about 25% of the way through and then didn't play it for a while, and now I can't get back into it. I think I'll rent some of these games you've recomened tonight...

If you dont have a Plastion, wait a few months, they will be cheaper than bleem, but anyway, I think that just about any Squaresoft RPG is good, cept for the PC ports. They always loose something when they port to PC. Im playing Lunar:SSSC right now, and that game rocks. Ive played through FF7 twice, and that game rocks, Im also in the middle of FF8 for the second time now. Xenogears is waiting for me to start it, and Lunar: Eternal Blue is coming out soon. Square has 3 new ones coming out soon too, namely Chrono Cross and the Secret of Mana sequel! :) My time is soon to be eaten up.

Besides Baldurs Gate, try Fallout, Fallout2, and Diablo 2 and PlaneScape: Torment. Also, watch out for Baldurs Gate 2, Pool of Radiance 2, Neverwinter Nights Icewind Dale and Ultima Online: 2
