I've been using a pair of New Balance 660's which are running shoes. Between the fact that they are a 1/2 size too small and they are not meant to be trainers, they are not working out.

I prefer something light and not ugly. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not clicking on the monkey shoes.

Things don't go between your toes. Its gross. It weirds me out.

I hate you.

You really should go to a local running store. They will have employees that will properly evaluate your foot and help you pick out the right shoe. Trust me, it makes a big difference in finding the right shoes.

Nice mature response. The point of those shoes is to let you effectively run as if you were barefoot. The more you read about barefoot vs. shod running, the more you realize how the latter leads to injuries. This thread references a number of relevant studies and Born to Run is an awesome book that builds an even stronger case for it. Of course, Vibram Five Fingers certainly aren't a requirement for proper running technique: any minimalist shoe or just going barefoot will do the trick as well.

I went to 5 today :(

I had big hope for Dick's since they carry Merrel and New Balance but they had nothing in my size. I found some Under Armor (I think) that I liked but again...nothing in my size. Foot locker and the Finish Line were filled with people getting new kicks for the weekend. Kohls was a joke and Track n Trail had nothing.

And regarding the monkey shoes....I get seriously weirded out when things are between my toes. I was kidding in my response just in case your sarcasm meter is broke.

I meant like a specialty running store. Do they have a Fleet Feet in your area?

As I said, Vibram's are not the only choice - anything that gets you away from normal running shoes and towards barefoot running style is probably better.

All that is probably true but at best they can be described as Odd looking. He did state he was looking for something that wasn't ugly and they definitely aren't aesthetically pleasing by any conventional standards.

looks don't mean nearly as much as support, comfort and stability. I'm sure the monkey shoes are great (my roomie has a pair and loves them) but they aren't for me.

Can we get back on topic please?

I really like the Nike xtrainers. I had a pair but they ended up being way too narrow for my big wide foot.
