“He was quite a hoarder. He had boxes and boxes and boxes of things,” Carson City Clerk Alan Grover told ABCNews.com. Grover said there were many containers of food and cans.

Grover said the coins were in boxes marked “books.” There were also coins wrapped in aluminum foil and stored in ammunition boxes.

Samasko had only $200 in the bank at the time of his death, according to the Las Vegas Sun, but had stock accounts totaling in $165,000 and had been living off of his investments.

Well he achieved what some here would hope for. Not sure how he was living off $165K, even at 10% return it's only $16.5K a year.

If you own your house, the property taxes are very low, and all you do is sit around in it, you can live off of very very little money.

Depends on the neighborhood its possible. They did say he's a recluse so maybe he lived frugally or had other sources of unreported income.

Gov will probably claim they were stolen or purchased with drug money or something and confiscate them. I mean, srsly, I came into this thread expecting a story about some cheapass with a well-paying-but-not-exemplary job (say, up to ~$100k a year before his death) who saved every last penny he could, but if he has very rare collector's stuff, I bet there's some illegit business going on.

He was a recluse and probably lived very frugally off of social security and a few thousand a year in dividends. It's actually easy to do if you have no interest in material pleasures which this guy obviously didn't.

The article said that his first cousin will get the inheritance. After estate taxes she will probably get less than 4 million.

Hell, if I were her, I would be so mad about the taxes that I would tell them to just keep it! :ninja:
