A quick Google search makes it seem like they paid 40K more than they should have.....
does the quick Google search include delivery, professional wallmount installation/wiring, and an AV cabinet?
Nope, but for 40K that AV cabinet better be made with the tears of a thousand children.
i don't think you realize the size of this beast until you've seen it in person.
i'm sure delivery and installation alone was several thousand, if not 10's of thousands.

I do computer work for a Repo place, business is great for them right now. They're repo'ing so many cars they can't keep up with the demand. The worse the economy is, the better their business is.

my company is spending MEGA $$$ on LED light bulbs.
we're going from 13w CFL to 9w LED.
cfl costs ~$1/each, and last 8k hours.
LED lightbulbs cost ~$40 each and 50k hours.
it's more PR about going green than cost savings (which there isnt any, obviously).
i said cfl's are already considered green. i got a blank stare.
Not necessarily that bad an idea. It costs considerably more for a company to change a light bulb than it does for the light bulb.
Someone has to spend time reporting the failed bulb. Maintenance have to send a guy down with ladder and tools. Someone has to take the old CFL and store it for disposal as toxic-waste. Contractors have to be paid to haul the toxic waste away.
By the time you've added up the time for everyone involved, you could easily be up to $20 just to change the bulb - and that's assuming it's a standard ceiling fitting. All bets are off, if it's very high up, or outside. Heck, health and safety laws over here prevent the use of ladders that more than 4 feet high. If you've got a light on top of a pole or half way up a wall, you have to erect some sort of scaffold, or if outside you need to use a telescopic lift vehicle.
Of course, LED lights might be good for the company - but they're not so great if you're the maintenance guy.

Every company is hurting, from public to non-profit and everything in between
That isn't true, a lot of things are recession-proof.
like?
Power Company
Water Company
how are these recession proof? People use less power if they want to save money; you could say that some people with extremely tight budgets might take measures to save on their water bills also
