Here is how you can tell:

Look at the names that typical viruses get. They are bland and non-memorable. Here is the current list of most widespread viruses at McAffee

W32/Mimail@MM
W32/Nachi.worm
W32/Sobig.f@MM

None of these names really stands out. Then think about SQL Slammer and MS Blaster. These names are much catchier and easier to remember. Obviously named by the security firms marketing department, rather than by the techies who found them.


 
I bet microsoft released the blaster virus, I mean come on, it even says MSblaster.

they would use a denial of service attack on themselves, that way no one will suspect them, except me!
everything is suspect 😉
