Next to the highest bid, it says "Reserve not met" in parentheses. This means that the hcurrent highest offer is not acceptable by the aution starter. So, it basically doesn't cost $750.oo

That computer blows ass chunks in my opinion. A radeon 9250? crap. No OS? crap. Mixed RAM brands with different timings? Crap.

Blows ass? Radeon 9250 can easily be replaced. Os can be installed in a second. Don't know much about the ram brands though, overall the motherboard and the processor is damn good though I think.

Those auctions are really designed for the non-tech savvy. Those who think bigger # is better thus the 256MB Radeom 9250. Of course I would commend the seller for outright saying it is mixed ram but whatever. I say build it yourself no sense to having a whitebox made up for you if you know how to do it already.

Of course I do think that with some of these Dell deals you can't build them for what you pay so I would go that route too if that were available.

There just something non-tech savvy about it when the "ULTA-FAST" in the specs is regarding the floppy drive...

Dell would be a safer place to buy a PC and some great deals can be had via the "Hot Deals" forum here at Aanand, also check out Fatwallet.

My quest for searching a good site that sells prebuilt computers still goes on then.

Ebay has been cut.
Gateway/Dell has been cut already.
Alienware has been cut.

alienware has been cut? I never actually bought from them but my friend loves his alienware rig. . never thought too much of the case designs though. If i was really gonna splurge and not build one myself. i'd get either Voodoo or Falcon NW. Can't come close to the case designs and cable management. . or maybe i'm just too lazy to do it myself.

reddem0n whats wrong with Dell? I mean yea they are huge and make cheap stuff. But their desktops are really awsome. I have tons of their computers at my house at my work and I couldn't be happier with their desktops. Now I think their laptops are trash, very poorly built (but apparently Dell is changing their laptop line to better built stuff too). And if you check out the hot deals forum there is usually a deal about once a week that there is no way you could buy the parts to build it that cheap much less find any other company offering something similar for that cheap.

Also other companies to consider.
buyabs.com this company build more whiteboxish computers, however they are the same company as newegg which everyone here loves including myself. I'm sure they offer great fast service based on my dealings with newegg.
HP/Compaq I'm less of a fan of them but again they make good products
Alienware just makes super computers but alas they are quite pricey.
Falcon PC again awsome computers but pricey

My problem is I would like a computer in which I can use on for a while in the longrun and not have to worry about upgrading components/hardware. I am going more with a custom built computer rather then a large manufacturer is because so I have more options to do what I want with it. Usually buying a computer from Dell/Gateway you are forced with many restrictions, such as adding anything non windows will void your warranty, overclocking your computer will void your warranty, etc. I would like to have the ability to have my own case as well, custom designing etc....I know there are some damn good looking ones in NewEgg. I've done a bit of research these past few weeks and I can definetly say that building your own computer is cheaper and better in the longrun from what I hear from everyone.

Worth about $600 max in my eyes, but even I wouldn't use some of the shoddy crap they put in there.

Give me $800 and I can do much better.

Ironically, that's probably the best component in the system. I have an NEC floppy drive in this system here, and as far as floppy drives go, I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's the quietest, fastest (well, if floppies could be said to be fast) floppy drive that I have ever seen. It's actually slimmer than the usual floppy mechanism, the drive is only about 2/3 as thick as the front faceplate. I'm assuming that the "quiet" mechanism was designed for a notebook drive. Either way, it's very well-engineered. If I could find another one, I'd buy it, just to hoard in case something happens to this one. Yes, it's that good. Much better than Sony or TEAC in my opinion.

Now as far as "ultra fast" goes, I know that some USB floppies offer a "2x" mode, and there might even be some with a "4x" mode. I've also heard it on good word from some random tech geek that I ran across, that certain models of Citizen-brand floppy drives can be effectively overclocked to 4x speeds, which makes them useful for use in high-speed duplication machines. Remember, the floppy controller on the vast majority of modern systems (more modern than Socket5), generally include the ability to run at a 1Mbit/s or possibly even a 2Mbit/s data-rate. (By comparison, the rate for standard drives is around 300-500Kbit/s.) So a 4x mode is possible through the controller as well.

PS. Didn't you know that black-colored computer components always run faster? :)
