After looking online, finding numerous forums that spoke about this issue and realizing it's a significant problem with many people, I checked every speaker wire for a short and even disconnected speakers one by one to narrow the problem channel.

None of these tactics seemed to solve the problem. Then I started looking at the way the speakers are setup and I discovered there is a button on the front/left of the amp labeled "speaker" that cycles through three options.

"SPA", "SPB" and "Nothing". I was set to "SPA" and that was were the unit would shut off when the volume was too high and a mildly loud sound would pass through the speakers. Nothing crazy at all, just the random jump in level and often times, not even that much of a peak.

Well, I switched it to the "Nothing Setting and my speakers sound the same as when they were set to "SPA" and I can crank my volume without the unit killing itself.

Again, I have no idea what this was about. I have been using this setup for at least four months and this just started happening a few weeks ago and it has grown more and more sensitive.

It's been maddening!
