Received new $5000 PC Build.

I know I could have spent the money better! Whatever tho, Im happy with the PC!

Me Justifying my horrible purchase:

- I didn't want to build myself (Why I bought from CyberPower)

- I already have tons of monitors but personally I would rather use a 65" HDTV (Why I didn't get a nice monitor or 3D surround with my budget)

- I got the extra video cards etc because I fell better having 2, rather than 1, and Quad Sli sounds cool

- I had the money put aside for this purchase so I just went all out with the unnecessary upgrades and services (Wiring, OC, Lights, ETC) until I reached my budget

- Bragging Rights

- ...

1. It makes sense to build a high-end PC yourself because you end up paying a lot less and you learn stuff in the process and you get to choose exactly what goes in your PC and why.

2. Don't see how this is relevant to buying a $5000 prebuilt PC instead of a custom PC for half the price.

3. See (2).

4. NVIDIA loves you.

5. So you basically admit here that you spent a lot of money on things you don't actually even benefit from, or need. That is progress.

6. Whatever floats your boat, but it would be better to brag with having built it yourself...

The only points that can even be considered valid justifications are (1) which is only a justification for buying pre-built, not for paying $5000, and (6) which is just in your head.

I agree with everything you said, I was just excited buy the PC, got carried away. I hereby admit my $5000 budget was spent foolishly but for the 90th time, im happy with the purchase, no regrets!
 
This reminds me of the time I helped a friend with $3000 budget build 2 years ago. Similarly, he did not efficiently allocate the budget by picking a lot of expensive (often unnecessary) parts to fill that budget. I revised it down to a Lynnfield build for half the budget and he is perfectly happy with it. It's a pity, since he mentioned he planned to play SC2, I budgeted a reasonably good GPU (HD4870). Well, he never bought the game and stuck with Facebook games...

IMO it comes down to spending appropriately for one's needs/demands. But as long as you're happy (and contributing to the economy in these times), it's all that matters. I think everyone agrees now the purchase is bad value and I trust you will be more prudent with future builds in the next 3-5 years.

Well, at least the OP learned something. I wonder if the PC is within the return window? He could probably come out ahead with a reasonable custom build even after eating the restocking fee. Hell, he might not even have to put it in the other room!

I like the silence of it being in the other room, its virtually silent, my 360 slim is louder! Also it took up quite a bit of space, the thing is huge! And I really don't feel like going through the return process, its such a pain and takes forever...
 
BTW, anybody know of a power button extender or wireless start for the PC? I understand if my keyboard and mouse are capable, I could enable them to remote start in the BIOS? Every time I turn it on I have to go into the other room.

Also my Phantom Lapboard has a range of like 1.5 feet. Its depressing. Anyway, I tried attaching an antenna, copper wire, etc to the USB Dongle, but it stays the same, could there be interference? Possibly the wifi dongle interfering with the keyboard / mouse dongle? How could I avoid this problem. Any help is appreciated!
 
Just put the computer into S3 sleep (STR) instead of shutting it down. You'll be able to wake it from the keyboard then.
 
Imo at least buy a 30 inch full resolution monitor to take advantage of what you built.. Otherwise you could do all the same things with a less than $1500 pc (except maybe unrar files as fast). Like I mentioned earlier, my pc is 3+ years old and I play at higher than 1080p at high/ultra settings in every game and get 50+ fps even in bf3. No point playing at low resolution (1080p) with a $5000 pc. That's like spending 5 grand on a competitive bicycle and putting permanent training wheels on it, whats the point, could have just bought a tricycle for 19.99.

As far as starting and shutting down etc. IIRC it's harder on a computer to start it up cold then it is for it to resume from sleep. It takes more power initially to turn it on then just leaving it in sleep *hence why fans speed up to 100% when first powering on* and is physically harder on the components.

It's kind of like a car, it's easier to leave it idle for 2 mins while you run into the gas station then it is for you to turn it off, let it cool down, turn it back on and have it warm back up.

That is my 2 cents though, I could be wrong, but I recall there being a thread about this a few years ago on a different forum.

Johny, are you overclocked? If so, what speed?

Yes, it is odd. The only thing drawing power when the system is asleep is the RAM, which doesn't put off much heat anyway.
 
For $5k, I would settle for nothing less than some SNB-E action.
However, I will say it is a nice machine! So...congrats nonetheless.

I don't really get why everyone is bashing the OP. People waste money on so many things which are overpriced, e.g. take a look at the snake oil peddling in audio where people pay $1k for a power cord, crap like Bose etc. At least with his pc he's getting what he paid for even though it may be overkill. It's his money and honestly not everyone wants to spend time or save money learning and building. You could apply the same philosophy for most anything, like why do people pay for the $80 'malware cleaning' or backup services at pc shops.

OP I would be more concerned about why your pc is so loud, since you paid so much for the water cooling, sound dampening etc. Have you asked cyberpower?

Its because of there is about 4 fans with the water cooling, I asked them and they said it was a "precaution" to keep all the components cool.
