You should at least look at the offers before shredding. Some lucrative offers are targeted and would not be available to you if you applied "cold".

Well I do... I sort of have to short of risking shredding an envelope that wasn't a CC offer. I go as far as open up the envelope and unfolding the first page to see what it is then it goes into the shredder if it's a CC offer. So I do technically give them 5 secs to grab my attention. I've never encountered any deals worth signing up for.

Yes, we do. Basically, we we budget to live on about $3,000/month. About $2,000 of that goes on the card, $865 is rent and is paid by check, and the rest is miscellaneous checks for things we can't pay by CC. I don't see why this seems like shens at all? Don't most people middle-class and above spend over $2,000 a month ($24,000/year)? Since most expenses these days can be paid by CC, I would think many people in a similar financial situation to me would charge around $25,000/year.

Ummm....in order to get that card, you have to spend atleast a quarter million on it a year. Not only that, but you have had to spend a quarter million a year on a previous Amex card in order to qualify. Are you some famous person we do not know about, because that is the only other way to get it.

As I posted in the post following the one you quoted above, I was mistaken about receiving offers for the Amex black card. Sadly, I'm not famous or independently wealthy :(

American Express is a good card to have if you travel a lot, otherwise the fee is not worth paying. For local and online shopping it's no better than a Visa.

Worse than Visa actually. Lots of places don't take AmEx because they charge higher fees to the retailer than the other cards. I use my AmEx at any national store or restaurant, but it's not uncommon for smaller local business to only take Visa and MC.

I really like my Schwab Invest First Visa. 2% cashback on everything, no foreign exchange fees, and pretty good customer service (from my limited interaction). No fees.

Amex is the ONLY credit card Costco accepts.

This.

Originally I wanted to go for the AMEX Blue for the Best Value Guarantee and for Costco, but I was a student at the time and they had a minimum annual income on the app, so I picked up a different one with no annual fee. Eventually, they cancelled the in:LA program and they automatically rolled me over to Blue with no fee.

OMG someone on OT that was actually reading what I wrote. Thanks Dawhim.
$1000 of debt is nothing and I can pay it off within one day but then I forgot that some people on here earn a gazillion $'s a year have no debt and have cured cancer.

if you can use your cards responsibly, there is no limit of how many cards you should have. i have about 20 cards myself.

I always advise to get at least one card with each major card issuer, amex, discover, mastercard, visa.

while you apply for amex, maybe get a discover as well if you dont have one already. i really like their "to go card" which is a mini credit card i can carry with my keychain. there was one time it really saved me when i forgot my wallet at home and not having enough gas to get home.

amex blue cash = best credit card i've ever used. i've had it for 5 years and have dealt with customer service many times, all of which have been more than pleasant.

my chase visa on the other hand i feel intenionally hires dicks for their customer service and makes you feel like you owe THEM something for using their card.

Guess that depends where you travel to. Over here you're better off with Visa or Mastercard (in that order).

My Amex blue is the only one who's rate didn't get jacked up recently for no reason.

That said, I'd wait until the new regulations go into effect next year before getting a[nother] card. That's when I believe credit card companies will start competing for people's business again.
