Reccomended 80-120 GB SATA drives?

I want to put two drives into my new machine in a RAID configuration. Any brands out there recognized as the least crash-prone? Any names or models to avoid like the plague? The quieter the better too, though reliability trumps any other consideration.

The last mobo I installed was for an Athlon 900, probably in...mid 2001 I guess. I've never used a RAID system on IDE or SATA and was wondering if anyone could point me toward a site that explains the various configurations and options you can choose. thanks!

Forget the raid...

for that size drive get the Seagate. My other fave is the Hitachi 250gb but you want a certain size. I'd get the SG in that size range

Why RAID? Just to keep me running in case one drive dies....am I way off, trying it with 80 GB or 120 GB drive-- maybe I'm missing something? 😕

I got a hitachi and i have loved it every since. The only brand i really don't like is western digital. I know i know...a lot of people have had good luck with them but not me. Every western digital drive i have ever got has died on me at some point. Every other brand i have bough has not died on me. I have had maxtor, seagate, IBM (older drive), and hitachi.

Nope. I was just curious, is all. So you want RAID 1, and I understand why you didn't want huge drives... bigger size equals bigger waste of space, if you have less than 80 gigs to protect anyway. I still stand by my recommendation, though; that drive is awesome for the price and the NCQ feature. I bought two of them myself.
