Actually I use Linksys cards in my Linux machines also... most of the time the tulip driver provided in Linux will work with my Linksys card without any problems... however on some distro it does have problems and you have to install linksys drivers...

BCYL,

Interesting. I've tried the linksys under Redhat and FreeSCO. I eventually did get the card working under Redhat after about an hour of tinkering, but that is something I definitely wouldn't want to do again. I've never had a problem with the Intel's, which is why I like them so much. I don't think that everyone needs an Intel network card, but if you are going to spend 1000+ on a computer system, why not spend an extra $20-30 to get a decent network card?

Well, to get back on topic, I would say the best network card < $20 is the Netgear. I've never used one, but I've heard only good things about them.

For win2k...the Linksys works great, just make sure you have a v4 card and you have drivers ready. Dlink worked flawlessly out of the box, didn't need drivers, and of course, 3COM's are always top-notch (you can set your own MAC address etc).
