Oh ok...understood. Now how could the 2.5RS take the WRX "off the line?" The 2.5 puts out what...170HP? And the WRX puts out 220HP... something like that. How could the 2.5 take the WRX?

Bigger engine, more torque @ lower RPM = get moving quicker 🙂 The WRX has a smaller engine w/a turbo so it makes more power, but not as quickly as the RS does.

I take it we are discussing 2 people who are just letting the car idle at the light and don't know how to launch AWD?

Why would you assume that? More torque @ lower RPMs is going to get you moving faster, especially in a car that's lighter and shares the same drivetrain (essentially). Obviously a WRX is faster than a 2.5RS overall, but I wouldn't be surprised if an RS could beat it off the line till say 10mph or so 😉

Say what? If both drivers launch their cars at say,.. 4500RPM the WRX would wax the RS.

I take it it you have never been in an AWD turbo car that launched hard.
They'll snap your freakin' neck, if done right. Which isn't hard,.....

I own a WRX and can honestly say I have lined up next to many a 2.5 RS and the 2.5 does not come anywhere near beating the WRX "off the line". If by "off the line" you mean you can see the 2.5 in the rear view of the WRX, then yes this would be the case.

If you launch hard enough (above 4k rpm) your turbo is pretty much working from the get go and you have virtually no turbo lag at all. This causes the vehicle to grab ahold of the concrete and never look back. Good luck getting a 4 cylinder N/A car to beat a WRX.

Avoid anything having to do with Chrysler or any domestic car (are there any AWD cars other than the Diamond Star trio of trash?)

I'd stick with Subaru or maybe even an Audi Quattro

"Diamond Star trio of trash"

Rather than listening to someone who obviously does *not* own a DSM, why not check out the sites I mentioned and get the opinions of those that actually own the vehicles? Those who own them are the only people whose opinions actually count, after all.
OK Mr. spend $7000 fixing up his dsm. I know three guys that have DSM cars, two of which are close friends... these are NOT reliable cars when compared to a brand like Subaru.

Can't let an oppotunity to bash me slip through your fingers, eh Powermac?
I'll let the car speak for itself on this occasion. Check out dsm.org and dsmtalk.com for *pertinent* information and not hearsay.

DSM's are pretty reliable IF you can find one that hasn't already been beat to hell by the same type of speed freaks that go to that site.

I would look into Subarus, since they're less likely to be raced. If you don't mind driving a wagon, you could probbably even find a Volvo V70 AWD wagon for around $10k, they're great cars. I would stay away from Audi unless you find one with a good service record, since their reliability is suspect.

Just don't break 1st😉😛 Just kiddin' ya

Assuming you don't overpay on a DSM, the difference between the purchase price and $10k can buy alot of reliability. 99% of the things that wear out on these cars are documented and can be replaced before they go bad for the few things that might leave you stranded. Another one to look for is the Galant VR-4; more info at galantvr4.org.
