Reccomend me some headphones

My only two pairs of headphones are now broken, and I disparately need need a new pair. I'm looking for decent, circumaural headphones that are $100 or less. Any suggestions? I had some Sennheiser HD201s and they were good, but I'm looking to upgrade since I'm getting these new headphones for my birthday.

What kind of music do you listen to? Are you looking for traditional looking headphones (ie, with the headband thing)? Do you want the cups to cover your ears entirely or just rest on top? Do you want them to block sound at all? Or are you instead looking for in-ear headphones or another kind?

For circumaural Open ear headphones, the Sennheiser HD-555 can be found for right around 100 bucks and are a fantastic bang/buck IMO. I have a pair and like them alot.

Circumaural = covers the whole ear. I thought people would know that. 😛

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep 'em coming!

Ah crap, I'm blind. My bad.

So, open or closed?

I think the Sennheiser HD-555 or Grado SR-80's are good. I think the Senn's are more neutral. Grados are bright and good for rock.

I bought my sennheisers over grados because they were closed (less sound leaking out) but there's still alot more sound out than I expected 🙁

I like my audio technicas 700's. I ordered them from amazon and they showed black in the picture but are fucking pink, seriously what the hell.

Look for the JVC HA-RX700 or 900. They go for $35 and $55. They might be sold out, but just order it anyway and wait for them to send them to you when they're in stock.

My HA-RX700s sound REALLY good, especially for the money. They're comfy as well.

You probably can do a bit better for $100 or less, but why spend more? I've heard these are comparable to the Audio Technica 700s (? I forget the exact model). Just do some research, and you'll see that these headphones are pretty popular (the JVCs).

If you listen to rock or anything with heavy synths at all, you deserve a pair of SR80's. I fucking love mine. NIN and RATM are heart-stopping on them. You can usually get them for about 70-80 used, or about 100 new.

EDIT: but they are open headphones, so take that into account if you use them where people will be around.

grado sr-60 = best headphones under $100

The JVC HA-RX700s are actually the better deal to me, IMO. I have both headphones. The SR-60s sure bring the music out (tons of clarity, bright, guitars sound great), but they really lack bass. They can also be TOO bright to some people.

A safer bet is that something like the JVCs. Not as bright and clear, but also easier to listen to. They're very comfortable and have a good bit more bass than the SR-60s without sounding "boomy". They sound great with rock and metal.

I find Grados to be horrible, loathsome things with a gargantuan mid-treble bump. Ick. They're poorly made, too.

For $100, I'd strongly consider a used pair of Beyerdynamic DT250s. They're pretty good. I've never heard the DT770s, but they're supposed to be even better. The DT880s are nearly unbeatable, but then again, the DT880s are way outside your price ranged - $170 is cheap for a used pair.

Also worth consideration is AKG's K240 and K270. You can get some used K240s on eBay for $70 or less, and they're immensely durable - even better than the Beyerdynamics, in this respect.

Come to think of it, I've got some open-modified DT770s I need to sell...

Hard to say. Just do some research...tons of posts on forums about the JVC headphones. All I know is that the JVCs are comparable to certain Audio Technica headphones (I forget the exact models), but not quite as good (but very close).
