I'm thinking of replacing my trusty AGP 6800GT with either of the following

7800GS

or

7600GT

I only have a 380W PSU so which on would be worth my hard earned dollars.

my rig is as follows

Athlon 64 3000+@2.87ghz SKT 754
GA-K8NS PRO
1GB DDR400
2 x 250gb Maxtor SATA2
LiteON 16X DVD-ROM
Pioneer AO8 DVD-RW
ThermalTake Watercooling kit

I mainly play at 1024x768 with most of the goodies turned up.
any suggestions (that can Actually be bought.....X1950pro I'm looking in you're direction)

AKSHAYT do not bother posting...any advice you other will be ignored and possibly(more likely than not) Laughed at.

Lock in 3...2....1.....(ok, may be not)

Actually I was being serious with most of this thread....it's just too much fun though to have a go at the AT video forum's favorite Asshat.

yes...my 6800GT just doesn't seem to perform all that well, I get st...st..stutters, tell me what to do.....oh wait I am reasonably happy with the 6800GT(it's never let me down) but newer games like FEAR extraction point and Prey give it a hard time.

Alright, I'll try to give you some info.

I'd say keep your 6800GT.
It should be fine for playing games at 1024x768 (*gasp* for such a low res :p)

Why upgrade??
When your ready, I say make the jump to pci-e when you can.

Dude, you deserve to run a second-rate system for starting such retarded threads.

And you should look into an ASRock 775-DualVSTA motherboard... you can use all your old crap and move up to a C2D. And a PCI-E videocard when you can afford it.

Seriously, check out one of link and then thank me later. ;) You can re-use your old RAM, your old videocard, and pretty much everything else while running a C2D. It will blow your mind and let you upgrade as you can afford it.

so going from a 6800GT to a 7600GT or 7800GS isn't really worth it then?

I prefer framerate over IQ, I play a lot of games over a network with my mates.

Ok then what would somebody reccomend then in a PCI-E video card....something that could run at 1024x768 or maybe 1280x1024 (the maximum res of my lowly 17in monitor)
with most of the trimmings on, not cost a fortune(mid range) and give a nice boost over the old 6800GT.

currently I just want to get Prey and FEP running better than they currently do.

Look at my last post in this thread. You might not be able to purchase from them but you can probably find the same board on your side of the planet.

It's really a very fine transition board.

yeah I've seen the board in a few PC stores here(it's not on my works suppliers list) but I was planning on staying with AMD(yes I can hear the laughter too) I do have in storage an Epox 8NPA SLI skt 754 board, which I did purchase awhile back but haven't been bothered using yet.

I'm really just trying to get the last bit of grunt out of my AGP setup before retiring it.
But feel free to suggest a PCI-E vid card that would suit a 3000+@2.87ghz (performs a little bit quicker then a 4000+ according to benchmarks), so I'm happy with the CPU grunt, up until march this year I had been using a AXP 3000+@2.33ghz....so I have no real need to be right on the bleeding edge.

Like it or not... you are on the bleeding edge... the back edge. ;)
