Reccomend me a new Grill ATOT

So apparently my PoS Charbroil grill has been rusting from the inside for quite some time. I opened it up to replace the flame shields and found that just about everything I touch inside of the grill is brittle and falls apart from rusting.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the rain + high humidity where I live, but I thought the point of a grill cover was to protect it from that sort of damage.

So my open questions are:

What grill do you recommend? Everyone seems to tell me to get a Weber, and I feel kinda sold on it - I'm just wondering what protects it from rusting? Better materials?

Lastly, it will be kept outside without a roof over it since we don't have a patio covering.... Are grill covers helpful at all? I thought they were necessary originally, but if anything I'm thinking that due to the rain + high humidity in our area it doesn't do anything to help the situation since it may just be trapping the water.

Weber original kettle 26". I don't think there's better grill for the price. For $300, you have a grill you can grill or smoke just about anything and will last lifetime.

With no cover over it? That means sun and rain are going to be on it 24/7 since I don't have a patio covering.

Also at the very least I'm likely to go with a gas grill. Taste the meat, not the heat! (Just kidding)

I've had my Weber for 6 years now. I live in Colorado and it's never covered. It sits out in the rain, snow, full shade, and doesn't seem to rust. The previous owner of my home ran a gas line to the deck so I decided to use that and went with the natural gas version of the grill. Now I never have to change a propane bottle. It cost a lot but I look at it like a second oven we can use outside. It's also better than throwing away a cheap $150 grill every two years. The igniter failed a few years ago and the shiny chrome looking metal has stained a bit but aside from that it still works great.

I had my Weber 22" kettle for more than 17 years. No cover and no rust. My patio is uncovered. I kind of wish it would rust and die so I would have an excuse to buy the Weber 26".

If you lived close, I would sell you my Weber Genesis S-330 gas grill. I haven't used in more than a year.

Our Weber gas grille is over 10 years old. Getting some rust on the steel cart...will probably have to replace it in a couple of years. If I'd actually use the cover I have for it in the winter...

Although I do enjoy my Weber Genisis I should point out that a few years ago Weber outsourced their low-end Spirit line of grills to China and there were some complaints about low-quality parts and rusting. Now it looks like the Genisis line suffered the same fate and 2016 was the last year they were built in the US. Any Genisis bought this year will come from China and I'm not sure if all the glowing reviews and recommendations can still apply. It looks like the Kettle and Summit series might still be made in the US but I'm not sure.

Well, that's a bummer :(. I bought my Genesis 9 years ago and it's doing just fine. I replaced the flavor bars last year and this year, I'm replacing the original cast iron grates with the stainless steel ones. Other than that, I just do basic maintenance.

I have a weber genesis special edition at my house, and a weber spirit 300 at my camp. The one at the house is never covered and is used about 250 times a year. The outside still looks great, and the cooking grates clean up well. The camp one still looks good too though i had to replace the cooking grates and flavorizer bars this year. Sitting outisde unused for 8 months will do that to any grill.

Note - if you do buy a weber I strongly consider that you purchase one that has the stainless steel cooking grates and not the porcelein coated iron. Every grill I have ever used with porcelein coated grates ultimately has problems with the grates rusting. And rust is not a seasoning any of my guests want to eat. The SS grates are more expensive. But they are hugely worth it.

I am sure others have said it, but with weber you know you are getting a quality grill. And if something goes wrong with it, chances are it will be covered by warranty. At the very worst- you know you will be able to get the parts.

Best of luck.

I can add another testimonial that the Webers do fine uncovered. My brother in law has had his outside and uncovered for at least 3 years and it looks just fine.

The one thing that goes on Webers first is the igniter though.

Weber genesis special edition, My first one lasted 17 years with some minor part replacements. My second one is going on 6 and I expect at least 10 more years out of it.
