Reccomend me a music player

Here's what's up. My 30 gig Ipod video shat the bed and I'll be damned before I just act like a sheep and buy another one of the same product that failed after a year.

So here's what I've got in mind.

20-30 gig player

$100-$200 maybe? The cheaper the better

And something that's durable. It doesn't have to be huge, and it doesn't have to be tiny either, just something that's relatively durable and or will work for a few years (2-3) without calling it quits.

What player should I get and where could I get it at?

Creative Zen Vision:M

love mine but going to sell it soon because I need the money

got mine for around $200 but have seen them around <$175 lately

I feel for you I just had to buy a new Ipod as my 4 year old one's hd broke (I bought another ipod because I already paid $100 for an hardwire adapter for my car stereo).

ahh well...maybe give them a call or talk to the guys at the apple store near you and see if there's anything they can do. Just because to spend more money after such a short time sucks. Luckily my iPod has been working for much longer than yours. I actually have a G2 iPod and it still works as if it was new. Lucky? Maybe...

I think the biggest flaw with the iPod is the fact that it uses an actual HDD with moving parts. Other than that it's a great product. Some people don't like iTunes, but there's ways around using it and generally it's not so bad.

I also hate IPods now, as one broke down on me after 4 months of light usage and one three seconds broke out of the box. Nothing very cool about turning on a IPod the first time and hearing a whirring and a crack. Whats worse is that the people at the apple store told me that It was my fault because I had dropped it ( Don't know how they got that conclusion, considering there was no obvious damage) That was when I left Apple.

Is the Zen M that great? I've been reading reviews and It's hard to see why its not dominating right now.

they assume it was damaged by user abuse because the HDD has moving parts. If it didn't work right out of the box they should replace it for an identical model at the palce of purchase. It's not a warranty issue if it's within the replacement timeframe of the retailer.

Although I have an 80gb ipod I do not like them and if my stereo system supported another mp3 player I'd have something else. Itunes sucks for file manipulation and they should just make it so where windows explorer can drag and drop music/video files onto the ipod. I do keep certain files backed up onto the ipod since win explorer can access the hd through the itunes interface.

you can do that with anapod explorer. It's like a $19.95 app though...sucks to have to buy something different if you want to avoid iTunes.

What do you mean about your stereo system supporting another mp3 player? Do you hook it up to a dock connector? I just use the headphone port with a stereo mini plug to my receiver.

I did buy anapod explorer.

And I see newegg.com has Creative Zen Mobile's (30gig) at something like $225. I'll buy the pink one for $216 and take the $50 rebate thanks.

And yes, the support I received at apple was less than average. It was nice to get in there and get support on the day but the "Genius Bar" is filled with sub-par humans on a major ego trip. I feel that what is holding Apple back is their deep rooted elitism that stems down from Steve Jobs himself. Still, that elitism creates a buying market of huge inflation. I saw maybe 6 or 7 people walking out with $2500 setups, either through desktop, cinema screen, or macbook pros and not even questioning the price or doing any sort of comparative shopping in the pc market (i.e. they looked like stupid hippies )

The actual service:

Upon getting support I had to hear that Windows Blows, Vista is horrible, and other banter bashing Windows. Becuase I was using windows to put music onto my ipod I'm pretty much a fool.

Yet the tech failed to realize that he was using Windows through bootcamp which is an EMULATION of windows, not the actual product itself.

Use windows on a pc and osx on a mac and then compare it.. .not osx on a mac, and then windows on a mac.

You can have 2 things and be good at one. Either A. have products that become faulty quickly and offer good support and replacement options or B. have products that are bulletproof and offer little support and replacement options.
Option C. poor product lifetime, coupled with poor service, and extended to the elitist idea of "just buy another one" is a recipe for not getting my support or dollars in the future.

All I can do from now on is not support or purchase apple products. Wish me luck becuase I do like the macbook's still.
