would like to purchase some golf clubs to use at the driving range. Where is the best place(site) to buy on a budget?

I'm an absolute beginner, so dont really need the best one. just something I can use and hit at the range.

Just jump on CL to see who's clearing out their garage. You can probably score some old persimmon woods for cheap too.

Buy a used 9-iron and a used cheapie putter.

Go to your nearest par 3 Municipal Golf Course and hit some balls.

See if you like it.

Almost every local golf shop should have used clubs available at great deals - some even have 30 or 90 day returns on them, no questions asked! I highly recommend you look into it. Not only can you get a good deal on used clubs (sometimes real nice ones), but you can play them for weeks and return if you don't like them. Just as important, you can get fit for proper clubs - it could make the difference between loving and hating the game.

Good luck and hit 'em straight.

You really should go to Dicks or Sports Authority and get a club to test out. My Mom got my Dad a set of Acuity clubs and the flex on the shaft is so great that everything he hits slices severely. You don't want that happening. Either of those places will let you use a club to make sure you like it and, if you don't, they will let you return it (Given that you don't mess it up). Do this even if you fully intend on returning the club so you can figure out what shaft flex to get.

Look at Play it again sports and other various used places for clubs. We all start with basic clubs and then work up. Good luck 🙂

Just go on CL and find some super cheap clubs and play a little bit. That's what I did, bought some super shitty set of irons for 20 bucks. They're pretty bad but so am I so it doesnt really matter. Im just working on making good contact and staying in form. Looking into my first real set of clubs now, I'm leaning towards the Nike CCis .

Buy used. There are stores that sell used clubs, you'll probably find a better selection at a store than on CL/eBay (locally at least). Second swing golf and play it again sports are two stores around here that sell used clubs.

If you want a new set, Costco sells inexpensive clubs.

Go with CL or local garage sales. At this point your primary objective should be price. If you like beating balls and want to start playing real golf you can worry about quality and fit, until then it's not an issue.

2 things to make sure of:

1) Get a modern set. Or at least a modern half set. You won't need a full 14 club set, a driver, one fairway wood and 4 irons will be plenty for now. Make sure it's oversized titanium driver, metal woods and cavity-back irons. Avoid old stuff with wooden woods and blade irons.
2) Get a set appropriate to your age and size. Don't buy a mens set if you're a woman or a pro level set with extra stiff shafts if you're 5'6" and 120 pounds.
