I haven't played a RTS war game in many years, whats a good one? Is Company of Heroes one of the better ones in recent years?

You looking for WW2 or sci-fi war?

Company of heroes is on sale on steam all the time for cheap. Men of war is good but its very micro intensive, but so rewarding when you learn how to play it. Both are world war 2 games.

If you want something more sci-fi, take a look at Supreme Commander. Preferably Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.

Need to see which one is available on Steam when I get home, hopefully they're both fairly cheap as old as they are.

Company of Heroes is still the best looking RTS game I have ever seen. If you turn the graphics way up and zoom/pan the camera right behind the infantry you'd think you were playing an FPS.

I strongly recommend World in Conflict http://www.gamespot.com/world-in-conflict/

came out in 2007, there is some more recent expansion to it I haven't tried yet.

Graphics still look pretty good.

9.5 rating from GameStop.

Voice of Alec Baldwin featured.

Same basic plot as Red Dawn, or Red Alert (but done much more seriously than Red Alert) feels like Red Dawn: The Game in some ways.

Set in the 80's.

$9.99 on Steam and I think that includes the expansion.

There's a free demo on Steam too.

The Expansion's worth it. Adds several Soviet missions and really fleshes out the story. But yeah, it's basically Red Dawn: The Video Game with better acting.

Company of Heroes, for sure. That'll keep ya occupied until CoH 2 hits (mother of god I cannot wait for that shit).

The old Dawn of War games were excellent IMO. Well, the Winter Assault expansion was kind of pants, but the other three games were all quite good. The first game was kind of a story, then Winter Assault you can just skip, Dark Crusade and Soulstorm were both pretty traditional RTS games where you have your base, the enemy has its base (or bases), and you duke it out.

Dawn of War 2 wasn't bad, but they were more tactical RTS games. You have 4 squads, and you have to complete various objectives on a map.

Both are firmly in the sci-fi category, and while it helps knowing something about the Warhammer 40,000 lore, it's really not required. I knew nothing about it going in, still enjoyed the games.

StarCraft and StarCraft 2 are good, WarCraft 3 wasn't bad either.

Ok I'm downloading Company of Heroes on Steam now, got it for $4.99. I'll keep the others in mind for later, I looked at some gameplay videos of Supcom and can't tell if I'd like it or not. Wish they made a new RTS that would be as cool as C&C RA was back in the day.

Now I gotta decide if I wanna finish Torchlight II before I start up CoH or try to get them both going at once...

Hmm, one of the best RTS games was Warzone 2100.
To this day, nobody has been able to match what that game offers, in terms of custom building all your units.
Looks like it is getting a facelift as well. http://wz2100.net
