I didn't know that one of the issues with the 686b was that you can only type caps.:)

**************CONFIRMED**************

4/27/2001 - VIA HAS ANNOUNCED THAT A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW HAS BEEN FOUND IN THEIR ATHLON CHIPSETS. THE DESIGN FLAW WILL CAUSE THE CAPS LOCKS TO REMAIN ON INDEFINATELY CAUSING THE USERS TO BE MISTAKEN AS "YELLING" WHEN CORRESPONDING ONLINE. ALL AFFECTED CONSUMERS ARE ASKED TO PETITION THE LEADERS OF THE MAJOR COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD TO FORCE A GLOBAL BAN ON THE CHIPSETS IN QUESTION.

FREEDOM!!!!
(Couldn't resist)

VIA is a marginal Taiwanese player. It's harsh to say it, but Taiwanese manufacturing conglomerates do NOT care about customer service and industry support. VIA is *** NOT *** like a little Intel.

People have become spoiled with Intel's hyper-responsbile, no games-playing approach to market support, and it shocks them that, no, other OEMs are less than that perfect. That's why Intel must move forward it's long-range goals of greatly expanding their presence in the low-end markets, thus burying marginal, shady players like VIA.

If this was an Intel problem (assuming such terrible engineering ever left the lab) every board would have been recalled immediately and replaced with something better that works.

<< VIA Germany has now published a list of KT133A boards, and will post each BIOS update as they become available. Currently, the KK266 and 8KTA3 have new BIOS's, as well as the KA266. Apparently, no one has informed VIA Germany that the KA266 uses the ALi Magik 1 chipset >>

Any VIA chipset that does ATA100 from the motherboard IDE channels (not using any add-on Highpoint or Promise RAID controller for ATA100) has the 686'B'

Come on guys, this 'bug' is a) fixable from BIOS and b) really a problem w/ the SBLive cards. (It's happening on 815 chipsets also. There goes your "Intel does no wrong, AMD is s*it argument!)

Let's keep it real :D

mmmosdef dont worry about the asus a7v it has the 686 southbridge not 686b

that being said ive built at least 10 pc's with a 686b southbridge and havent had a problem with any of them, even the ones with burners, (granted none of them had a sb live card)
