Veterans are not in a public-sector union. The benefits they receive are provided for by Congress.

They have low pay.

And also why their unions don't need to exist.

Why do you think their pay would not be low when we have the obvious example of the military as our guide? No union and risk your life for others for a living - low pay. Union and risk your life for others for a living - good pay.

You keep trying to say they will not have low pay like the military but have nothing to base your view upon.

Private-sector union support for the GOP is usually centered around proposals like that one; things that bring jobs to the companies who employ tradesmen.

Your link says they support a plan...now show them giving money to the GOP.

The military != local law enforcement and firefighters. Military pay is set by Congress; which is probably the most inefficient place to get something done that most people want done. The pay/benefits for local law enforcement and firefighters is set by local government; the level of government that the average citizen has the most direct influence over.

The union for WI's prison guards was not exempted from the collective bargaining changes. If it's about rewarding those who risk their lives, clearly the governor must think (wrongly) that prison guards don't risk their lives.

Aside from all of that, the concept of needing a union to get a desired level of pay.. particularly as a public servant.. is just totally absurd. Municipalities should be free to find (and pay) the best people for these very important jobs, and punish poor performers with lower pay or, more realistically, no raises. Unions are the antithesis of the concept of rewarding individual excellence and punishing individual mediocrity.

The risks associated with being a police officer or firefighter make them careers that many people wouldn't consider in the first place, so it is already a fairly exclusive group in the labor market anyway. This would put more upward pressure on wages/benefits.

The military may not pay much right when you enlist, but they do offer a lot of benefits that are exclusive to those who serve or have served. As usual, these benefits increase with your length of service, being deployed in combat, etc.

Why? I never said anything about who donates money to who. It's anecdotal, but I personally know that the voting history of those in the skilled trades is much more purple than blue or red.

One could say that about the recall election in the first place.

From what I've seen of the polls, the real difference between Walker and Barrett right now consists of people who dislike Walker, but are opposed to the concept of this recall.

And they have a point.

Furthermore, if the people who planned this recall didn't know from the start that Walker would get millions to defend his office, they were pretty foolish. And they're going to end up worse than when they started out if he wins in two weeks.

What's the point? Walker ran on a stealth, Koch-funded anti-union agenda.

When elected he immediately pursued that agenda, widely unpopular.

So a recall is the appropriate response. If the rest of your post is correct, what are they supposed to do? Just say 'go ahead and do the wrong things, ok with us'?

It's either do nothing or the recall attempt, it seems.

Sour grapes. It seems like you're chomping on a load of it yourself the way you're trying to dismiss the real reasons why Walker is being recalled.

Walker may win, or he may lose but the fact remains that over a million Wisconsinites didn't like what he did with the public unions. How you can flippantly attribute this recall to Walker doing what he promised during his campaign is simply amazing in light of what Walker did as soon as he and his head hunting legislature took office. Didn't you follow the actual chain of events that led to his recall at all? If you did, you must have did it with Rove colored glasses on it seems.

When Walker turned on the public unions he didn't just negotiate in good faith, he legislated them into insignificance as an voting block. Of course it's a major policy shift for the state and Walker did it without campaigning on it as a major plank in his platform, given how controversial the attempt to kill the public unions voice actually is, he should have, but he chose to do it in a sneaky underhanded way.

lol, yeah it was all a big secret plan...:roll; Is this like hilary's "right wing conspiracy"? Again, I'm not the one claiming anything other than he did in fact speak of Unions before and during the campaign so it wasn't something NEW. And also, it's the whiners that are trying to suggest that since it wasn't a major part of his campaign that he somehow shouldn't be allowed to do it. FFS - it's politics - you can't actually do everything in your campaign anyway when you have legislatures actually writing and passing the laws. It seems some of you think he is some sort of dictator or something... I laugh at those types. 😀
