HYPOCRISY: Dems Require Photo ID For Petition Processing Strike Force
By Collin Roth
Now hear this: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is in favor of photo ID!
According to their website, the
Democratic Party of Wisconsin is enlisting volunteers for a Recall Processing Strike Force (how uncivil). The mission of the Strike Force is to prep boxes and process the final petitions for their submission to the Government Accountability Board early next week.
The curious irony of the entire Strike Force is the security measures taken by the Democratic Party. An email to supporters obtained by Media Trackers reads:
Security Measures:
We are taking
extra security measures to insure the safety of the petitions. Therefore, presentation of a
Photo ID is required.
Also, the
following items are prohibited from the petition processing room:
- Writing utensils of any kind
- Coats
- Bags
- Backpacks
- Purses
- Liquids (in closed or open containers)
- Electronic devices
- Food items
- Any other items indicated by the petition processing centers staff
Items such as bags, backpacks, computer bags, purses, etc. are best left in your vehicle prior to entering the AFSCME Building. There will be a coat check for outerwear outside of the petition processing room.
When one reads this TSA-like list, it is certainly remarkable to note how concerned the Democratic Party is about their coveted and precious recall petitions. One only wishes they cared half as much about ballot security and election integrity!
To paraphrase from an April 2011 Democratic Party of Wisconsin
press release regarding passage of the photo ID bill, requiring photo ID
is an affront to democracy in Wisconsin. It is morally repugnant
it is coldly calculated to make it so the states most vulnerable citizens and its young people are denied a voice in who will govern them.
But less than a year later, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin appears to have determined:
- Photo ID is a useful and important way to determine ones identity when dealing with important things like recall petitions or maybe when someone casts a ballot.
- They are more than willing to engage in the morally repugnant and make it so the states most vulnerable citizens and its young people are denied the chance to be a part of their Petition Processing Strike Force
So which is it Democrats? Is Photo ID a useful common-sense safeguard against fraud? Or is it a weapon wielded by the powerful to disenfranchise the most vulnerable citizens?
Like all too often, it appears that the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is more than willing to have it both ways.
UPDATE: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin scrubbed their website of any information regarding the Petition Processing Strike Force. Notice the links no longer work.
