What's your opinion of buying a car with a rebuilt title? Ok? Big no no? Be very very very very cautious?

Be very, very, very, very cautious.

Some states are quite rigorous in inspecting rebuilds prior to retitling them, some not quite so much, some not at all.

As for price, around 50% of normal or less, unless it's a very rare and desirable vehicle. Watched a rebuilt titled 40th Anniversary Mustang GT convert, was a gorgeous car, sell for $2400 last month at an auction. It was loaded, looked quite good, and whatever repairs were done appeared to be done well when I crawled over and under it.

Had a Honda Accord with one. I knowingly bought it, $3600 and for the most part it was fine. Only operation issue was the front end would never align correct, so I rotated the tires more often, 3k miles. Trouble was when another driver hit me and totaled it, the drivers insurance knew through the VIN that it was rebuilt and did not want to pay out on it. They said it was basically worthless. My lawyer had to convince them it didnt matter she hit me and they were responsible for all damages. That was in the '90s, laws are different regarding rebuilds now.
