Before rebuild

This is the first time I've done one. I didn't totally rebuild it... Just stripped it to clean and lube the weights and plates. You can see how nasty this 25+ year old distributor was.

As I was taking it apart I could feel the movement of both advances was gritty. Now all cleaned up with fresh lube the advance is smooth as silk. Bus runs nice too.

Can't wait until Tuesday morning. That's going to be the real test... First morning since the rebuild that it will be below freezing here. The reason I took it apart in the first place was because at or below freezing the mechanical advance wasn't advancing. I could feel the advance lag then suddenly kick in. Hopefully new lube will take care of that.

(Sorry, no after pic. I was too pumped to get it back in the bus.)

Points.

Electric (Pertronix et al) is around $65. Too poor for that. I may drop the dosh for a CDI unit soon though... :)

LoL! Aside from being a serious PITA to get adjusted just right, they're not bad. My bus never revs over 4500rpm so there's no point float, the biggest problem with points.

I'd love to get rid of points just to avoid the hassle.

i had no choice but to ditch mine, i wanted decent grunt and revability over 7000rpm as I plan to run this car down Eastern Creeks drag strip once its finished.

Yeah, you need an electronic rig then. Otherwise you'd need much heavier points, which would mean the rubbing block would be wearing down like weekly. ;)
