@Home sucks...this is a sidenote since I woke up this morning with no internet access so I had to go to work to get the info I needed...no warning just disconnected for 8-10 days...but I digress.

OK...I am "rebuilding" my system today/tomorrow/Monday/Tuesday. I'm going to look at a few sites for directions/step-by-step process since building is not something I have done frequently and the process is not memorized. Anyway I'm looking for some tips anyone may have.

Things I plan on doing:
- removing everything and taking compressed air to it....seems to be a lot of dust inside.
- replacing boot drive (75gxp) and making it slave to new drive (60gxp...please don't be DOA)
- flashing bios (just need to dl flash program and new bios...simple enough)
- reinstall win98
- a lot of praying

Written down it sounds easy enough but I recall summer 2000 when I built this machine......the headaches I went through (like no sound and not recognized by windows...oh wait the card is not all the way in, and a DOA NIC from 3com).

Side note....too much stress lately from brewing first batch of beer...but that is most certainly off topic.

Doesn't sound too bad. I don't think you need to take everything out to dust it. Just get a cloth and get the metal sides inside. The swap of the hhd is nothing and a re-install of Win98 shouldn't be a problem either. To make life easier, make sure you have the boot disks for Win98. It will take you straight through the setup. Good luck.

forget the boot disks.
1. Put the 60gxp as slave.
2. Go to dos and type "sys X:" where X is the 60gxp.
3. Copy the entire windows98 cd on to a directory in 60gxp (this way you won't ever have to find the win98 cd when installing/adding programs).
4. Shut down.
5. Make 60gxp master and 75gxp slave.
6. Boot it up and you should be in DOS with a complete copy of win98 on your HD. Just install win98 from that directory
7. Move essential data from 75gxp to 60gxp.
8. etc....
